Kazuo, new Asian restaurant in Itaim

South America

In my last gastronomic immersion in Terra da Garoa, I went to visit Kazuo, a new Asian restaurant in Itaim, which opened just under a month ago. Kazuo Harada, former chef at Mee, an Asian restaurant at Belmond Copacabana Palace (where he worked for years and won several awards, including a Michelin star), returns to the capital of São Paulo after 7 years. The Kazuo restaurant offers a true journey through Asian cuisine, with a fusion of flavors and ingredients from countries such as China, Thailand and Japan. So, check out all the details of my experience in the post. Take the opportunity to also read about the Dengo factory in SP and the luxury of the Hotel Unique.

New Asian restaurant in Itaim

The bold environment was designed by Naoki Otake, a specialist in Japanese architecture. On the walls, works by artist Gabriel Ribeiro, inspired by Japanese culture. There is an imposing sushi bar in the middle of the room, where I chose to sit, to closely monitor the work of the chefs. In addition, there is also a balcony and private rooms for families or small groups upstairs.

On the menu, the omakase experience (tasting menu R$390) is only available at dinner, which is where I went. For starters, oysters, sushi and sashimi. The fish, in fact, follow the Japanese tradition, of common species in the region of consumption and where the coldest water currents are found, such as Ilha Grande, the south coast of São Paulo and the northeast coast.

Then, hot dishes from Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine, such as the classic Peking Duck. Duck thighs and drumsticks are cooked in their own fat at a low temperature, with hoisin sauce. It is made from a combination of fermented soybeans, garlic, seasonings, sesame, salt and pepper. To accompany, leeks and handmade pancakes that the customer finishes at the table.

As for Thai cuisine, the highlight is the green curry accompanied by jasmine rice, chicken thighs and drumsticks with herbs. This menu is available for both lunch and dinner. In addition, lunch also has the executive option with bento boxes (R$109).

The drinks menu

The bar and drinks are also a highlight at Kazuo. After all, the letter is signed by Alex Sepulchro, head bartender from the award-winning SubAstor. In addition to the classic cocktails, there are also signature cocktails, such as the Tokyo Milk Punch, with green grapes, pineapple, Lillet, vodka, sake, Monin vanilla, lemon and yuzu liqueur. In addition, there is also a wooden wine and sake cellar.

In fact, Kazuo is an unmissable new addition to São Paulo that deserves a visit!
