  1. Excellent video. I also so agree with you about the quality of pies in New Zealand. The steak and cheese, mince, chicken pies are superb. And one of my favourites are the good old custard pies.

  2. I'm surprised you didn't mention lamb or mutton! We had NZ neighbors for several years when we were living abroad near Tokyo and our lovely Kiwi neighbors' cuisine was always lamb, fish or mutton based. Even their detergents and shampoos were lanolin based. It's a distinct smell but if scented nicely then yes was very okay. Has NZ gone away from eating lots of lamb or mutton?

  3. Umm. That lump in the throat doesn’t look good. Around 5:20. Should get that checked out. Medical care is tens times cheaper than the states, take advantage .

  4. Expat here and have just spent some time back in the Deep South of NZ for the first time in many years… yeah; there were certainly foods I was keen to eat as I can’t get them in Australia, like Bluff oysters, orange choc-chip ice cream, mutton pies and whitebait amongst others, cravings which I indulged and enjoyed every last bloody taste!!
i would recommend, too, cheese rolls, which don’t seem to be too common north of the Waitaki River and – done properly – are simple but delicious comfort food! Lolly cake is another personal favourite…

However, you’ve pretty much nailed any list I would have been able to come up with, though by and large, Australias’ fare is very similar to NZs…

  5. You left out NZ lamb in your roast meat line up! Yorkshire pudding is actually British but I'm sure you realise that. I love a good Yorkshire pud with roast beef and gravy….and for me a straight mince pie has always been the best, I grew up with those…adding the cheese came later. You were spot on with all the foods you mentioned though.

  6. I’m afraid in New Zealand intensive farming has destroyed the quality of food all food with the sprays the commercial fertilisers our food is just drenched at there is too many chemicals that go on our food for me to mention that cause massive health problems

  7. 06:55 – I think NZ carrots (Ohakune/Canterbury harvest season Jan – Oct) deserve a mention. There's a reason why we use so much grated carrot, cf. US carrots esp. the "baby" carrots. Those things are woody, flaccid and insipid.

  8. How did you stay slim in the U.S? When I was visiting regularly I found it hard to find healthy food, everything was processed or full of sugar, preservative and chemicals I had never seen before, even ready made sushi and bread for example.

  9. yessss NZ food is so much better, in general. I LOVE Kumara. Here in the US you can find it sometimes, called "Japanese Sweet Potato" (purple with white flesh). WHITTAKERS chocolate is the best. Hands down. I've been ruined & hate Hershey's now. What I don't miss, is the cost Limes & Avocados are in New Zealand 😉 Try to make some guacamole….$25 later…..

  10. I see where you are going, growing up overseas and watching with horror how America has turned into a giant dumpster of chain restaurants and "Ultra processed" food with the average Joe bag of doughnuts saying: "Give me the pill Doc", reminds me of that Texas Border episode of No Reservations where Anthony Bourdain standing by the freeway with a Chili's sign in the distance saying: "These things are popping up all over the place like herpes", that's when the parent company Brinker sent a lawsuit threat letter and all subsequent reruns of that episode, that sound bite was surgically removed, and to my mind that single statement sums up food in America today

  11. Pizza is Italian and hamburger is originally from Germany Hamburg is where you get the name…in the US at leat they have good Mexican, Japanese and Chinese…in the US the chocolate is bad of course any from the US will like, never heard of Swiss, Belgium, Italian chocolate? Indian food is great but is Indian not Kiwi or american….there are indian resturants in the US where did you live in the middle of nowhere?
