Have you ever heard of Sandwich? These are those thin, triangular sandwiches, made with crumb bread and typical of the Turin region, in Italy. Well, what a joy to know that the I Tramezzini restaurant in São Paulospecialized in this delicacy.

Legend has it that the first sandwich it was served at Café Mulassano, in Turin, in 1925, the invention of Italian playwright Gabrielle D’Anunzio. Inspired by the English sandwiches served during afternoon tea, it gained a new Italian version, quickly became known throughout the rest of the country and became a national passion. Now, finally, it arrives in Brazil.

To the delight of diners, one is tastier than the other and it’s even difficult to choose your favorite flavor. I tried the shrimp with breath; salami and egg; gorgonzola cheese, mascarpone, walnuts and honey – I think my favorite; – caprese salad; between others. There are 22 options, divided into 4 lines – rossa (strong flavors), gold (sophisticated ingredients), verde (lighter versions) and blu (fish and seafood). They can be accompanied by salads and drinks, making them an excellent and quick option for lunch.

The fillings were created by Roman chef Franco Maria Sala, (who has more than 15 years of experience in restaurants in the USA and Italy, including at La Lupaia, a Relais & Chateaux, in Tuscany) proving that the sandwich goes far beyond a simple sandwich. The recipes are uncomplicated in both preparation and seasoning, and above all, faithful to Italian traditions.

The light sandwiches are made twice a day – you can see how fresh they are – and the crumb bread is produced right there and considered one of the best in the city. Some ingredients are also made in the restaurant, such as roast beef, pesto sauce, mayonnaise, etc.

But the menu also features other dishes. There are a variety of pastas, such as artisanal tagliatella, with homemade pesto sauce, lasagna alla bolognese – authentic Italian recipe from nonna, without ham, with homemade pasta and rigatoni with onion and red wine sauce. I tried each of them and they were very approved!

And to top it off, the desserts are jaw-dropping: strawberry and Nutella tartlets produced in-house and the tiramisu – very light – one of the most popular, naturally.

O I Sandwich It is located in a beautiful house, in Jardins, with a relaxed atmosphere, including an outdoor area, where it is possible to hold events for up to seventy people.

The partners plan to open around 30 points of sale over the next 5 years, 15 in the state of São Paulo, and the rest in Rio de Janeiro (I loved the news!) and Santa Catarina. The first ten units will be owned, and from the eleventh onwards, they will be sold under the franchise model.

The house also offers delivery services, covering the main regions and neighborhoods of the city. And it’s worth remembering that the packaging is practical and tasteful.

Whether you want to make a light meal or a nice pasta dish, the Tramezzini It’s more than approved and I can’t wait to go back on my next trip to São Paulo.
