Fashion Bubbles went to see, live, the Milan 2021 furniture fair, the main furniture show in the capital of design and fashion. Here, you can check out the latest news and trends.

Stefano Boeri, curator of the fair, stated: “We are committed to organizing this super fair because we believe it is essential to meet again, talk and discover the products that our companies have continued to create during these 18 months of pandemic”.

Thus, the event was postponed twice due to Covid-19 and, finally, it took place from September 5th to 10th. There were more than 423 brands exhibiting their products distributed in four pavilions.

What are the main trends at the Milan Furniture Fair for 2022?

Among the main trends and news presented at Milan Furniture Week are:

  1. Sharing
  2. Sustainability
  3. Home office
  4. Colors, materials and finishes
  5. intimate atmosphere
  6. Brazil is present

1. Design, sharing and sustainability

According to Stefano Boeri, this furniture fair could become the symbol of the new renaissance, that is, post-pandemic. So be it!

In this way, companies are oriented to adapt quickly to changes in society and mainly to meet the individual needs of each customer.

In this sense, the event was based on the strength of design and creativity. All installations at the furniture fair were designed by architect Andrea Caputo, with recycled wood structures.

Without a doubt, the protagonist material of the show was wood, transporting us to homes, offices and green cities.

Thus, at the entrance to the event we could breathe in the green atmosphere, thanks to the project in partnership with Forestami, which carried out “urban afforestation” work in Milan.

In this way, the green corridor accompanied visitors to the fair, with hundreds of trees in wooden boxes greening the entrance to the event. A beautiful installation!

2. The home office at the Milan furniture salon

First of all, lots of green and colors for the home office. Workplaces are no longer gray. The idea is that they become pleasant spaces.

Thus, the green of the plants, the colors of the flowers will be present, as well as guaranteed space for your headphone, motorcycle or scooter helmet, family photos… In short, everything to make life more pleasant.

As a consequence, the chairs are in focus to provide maximum comfort and functionality.

Thus, inside the pavilion, trees also decorate the corridors. However, they will all be replanted in the city of Milan.

The fabrics in earth tones and the stones with visible veins draw attention to nature.

3. Colors, materials and finishes

The green color appears on stone surfaces and upholstery. The shelves with geometric niches were also a highlight. Just as marble or granite stones always appear in their most natural version.

Next, orange was present at the 2021 Milan furniture show in several versions, both in more energetic tones and also in earthy tones. For example, in this kitchen proposed by Veneta Cucine.

In short, orange promises to invade bedrooms and living rooms as well. Keep an eye out!

Some experts already point out that orange will be the new black in decoration.

In this way, the design meets the naturalness of wood and the energy of the orange color in some of the most iconic products at the 2021 Milan furniture fair.

4. Brazil was present

Highlight goes to the Bola do Brasil studio, which brought wood as the protagonist of the pieces exhibited at the Milan furniture show. Authorial design and simplicity are the keywords that drive the work of the two architects from São Paulo, Flavio Borsato and Mauricio Lamosa, founders from Bola studio.

This way, they create products without worrying about fads. In this way, what matters is leaving the pieces pleasing to the eye for years.

Also very interesting was the program of lectures that took place on circular economy, education and architecture with the participation of illustrious names, including the Brazilian Humberto Campana.

We continue with Favela Chair , created in 2004, a classic by designer Humberto Campana that was highlighted in the exhibition inside the furniture salon. Created from reused wooden battens, once again highlighting sustainability as a keyword.

In addition to Pedro Franco’s creation for A Lot Of Brasil, with the chair under construction for the Renda 2020 Collection, another Brazilian presence at the Milan furniture show. Lot Of Brasil is a Brazilian industry with the purpose of Glocality (global+local ).

Therefore, a very important reference, mainly because it was the first brand from Latin America to be invited in 2013 to exhibit at the Milan furniture show. So proud!

5. Intimate atmosphere in the furniture salon corridors

In this way, the visiting experience is impressive. The Milan furniture fair showed a unique experience in the visitor’s journey, the corridors with indirect lighting and spotlights on the products created an air of a catwalk.

In this way, trends were highlighted, as well as the organizers raised the banner of sustainability with less energy use during the event.

Thus, the intimate atmosphere invited people to meet again, with conversations that seemed to be between old friends. On the other hand, the products were displayed as if they were pieces of art in a gallery.

6. Fashion brands shine in the furniture salon

Firstly, Missoni Home invested in inspiration Tie Dye and presented this collection of chairs in the photo above with the proposal of a colorful composition for the outdoor area.

In addition to printed fabrics for upholstery with motifs reminiscent of stones and rocky surfaces from the Atacama Desert. Especially in a color palette in natural tones, for example, this proposal below for a beach or country house.
