Hume stone: what it is, what it is for (and how to use it)

Beauty

Hume stone is a semi-transparent, whitish stone, made from the mineral potassium alum, which has several applications in health and beauty, being especially used as a natural antiperspirant.

However, this stone can also be used to treat canker sores, soften stretch marks and even accelerate the healing of small wounds. Therefore, it can be purchased in the form of a small stone, salts, spray or powder, in natural product stores, street markets and some markets.

There is also potassium permanganate which is similar, but can be used differently: see how to use it here.

What is hume stone used for?

Hume stone can be used for:

1. Decrease sweating

This is the main use of this type of stone, as potassium alum regulates the amount of sweat that is released from the skin. Furthermore, it can also combat the growth of bacteria present in the most superficial layer of the skin, reducing the smell of sweat.

How to use: wet the stone and apply it to the area, or buy stone powder and apply it to the area. The stone can be used to reduce sweating on any part of the body, especially the armpits, feet and back. See other natural ways to reduce sweating.

2. Attenuate stretch marks

Hume stone crystals can be used to exfoliate the skin during the shower, removing dead cells. They also stimulate local circulation and the production of collagen fibers, which support the skin, reducing red stretch marks.

How to use: During the bath, apply a mixture of 3 tablespoons of liquid soap (or sweet almond oil) with 1 tablespoon of hume stone salts to the area you wish to treat, using circular and gentle movements. Then remove with warm or cold water until all residues are eliminated.

After bathing, it is recommended to apply a moisturizing cream to maintain the health and integrity of the skin. This exfoliation should be done 1 to 2 times a week. Discover other natural methods to remove stretch marks.

3. Treat canker sores

Hume stone has excellent antibacterial and healing properties, which help eliminate bacteria at the site of canker sores and accelerate their healing. Thus, the duration of the cold sore can be reduced and, in some cases, it can disappear in up to 24 hours.

How to use: it is possible to apply the hume stone powder or spray directly on the cold sore, which can cause a very intense burning sensation in the area, or dilute 2 tablespoons of powder in a cup of water and then gargle or swish the mouth, repeating 3 to 5 times.

If the condition of canker sores increases or causes other symptoms, it is recommended to seek medical advice for the most appropriate treatment. Try other home remedies to cure canker sores quickly.

4. Eliminate pimples

Due to its antiseptic properties, hume stone can effectively eliminate bacteria present in the first layer of the skin, promoting deep cleansing. Furthermore, it helps to improve skin texture, closing pores and making it difficult for new pimples to appear.

How to use: mix 1 tablespoon of hume stone powder with 2 tablespoons of green clay and 1 cup of water, until a homogeneous mixture is obtained and apply to the face, letting it rest for 30 minutes. Then wash with warm or cold water and dry with a soft towel. See the best step-by-step guide to treating pimples.

5. Heal small wounds

Hume stone can be used to stop bleeding from small wounds and facilitate their healing. This happens because potassium alum stimulates skin contraction, preventing blood from escaping, in addition to having a powerful healing action.

How to use: wet the stone and apply directly to the cut site or apply a small amount of hume stone powder to the wound. Remove the powder when there is no more bleeding. If the hume stone is not enough to stop the small amount of bleeding, it is recommended to seek medical help.

Is it possible to use the hume stone in the vagina?

The hume stone has been popularly used as a natural method to narrow the vaginal canal and increase pleasure during intimate contact. However, using the stone for this purpose may pose health risks, as potassium alum has the ability to change the pH of the vagina. Therefore, it is possible for the vaginal walls to dry out, increasing the risk of developing infections caused by bacteria or viruses.

A safer and more effective way to narrow the vaginal canal is to do exercises that strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, known as pompoarism. See how to do this type of exercise.
