How to remove dark circles: home and aesthetic treatment options

Beauty

To remove dark circles and prevent them from appearing, you can resort to simple home treatments, such as placing cucumber slices or cold compresses on the eyes, as the temperature causes vasoconstriction in the region, helping to minimize dark circles.

It is also possible to use anti-dark circles creams or aesthetic treatments such as laser, fillers or acid peels to achieve a longer-lasting result.

Some factors such as exposure to the sun, spots caused by inflammation, tiredness or swelling of the eyes can contribute to the increase in dark circles, but in most cases, home treatments provide good results in alleviating these signs. However, if home treatments do not work, you need to resort to specialized treatments, carried out by a dermatologist, beautician or a dermatofunctional physiotherapist.

Home Treatment Options

Some great home treatment options for dark circles are:

  • Apply a cold compress of chamomile tea for 10 minutes before going to sleep and upon waking up, as chamomile soothes the skin and the cold temperature reduces the dilation of blood vessels, brightening the eye area. This compress can also be done with just cold water;
  • Place cucumber slices and leave to act for approximately 20 minutes. The cold temperature of this food causes vasoconstriction, leaving the eye area less puffy and, in addition, helps to alleviate blemishes, lightening the skin naturally;
  • Pass an ice stone for 10 seconds and repeat up to 3 times, after waking up, as the cold causes the skin vessels to contract, reducing the depth of the dark circles and lightening them naturally. It is important to be careful not to burn the skin, and it is recommended to slide the ice stone over the dark circles, avoiding putting pressure on the skin;
  • Rest a cold gel thermal pack It is another practical option to minimize dark circles and de-puff the eyes, as the cold temperature of the compress helps to constrict the blood vessels in the region, providing relief and reducing dark spots under the eyes. It is recommended to check the temperature before placing the gel pack on your eyes, to avoid local burns.

Furthermore, eating a healthy diet, drinking 2 liters of water a day, getting enough rest, stopping smoking and avoiding stress are also good natural ways to prevent the appearance or worsening of dark circles. Check out other home remedy options for dark circles.

Aesthetic treatments

Aesthetic treatments for dark circles are capable of promoting a longer-lasting result, and it is important that they are carried out under the guidance of a dermatologist or beautician.

Thus, some of the main aesthetic treatment options for dark circles are:

  • Creams for dark circles: They must be prescribed by a dermatologist and help to shrink blood vessels, decongest the area and lighten the skin. The chosen cream should be applied at night to the dark circles, with circular movements in a counterclockwise direction, that is, from the outside to the inner corner of the eyes, until it is completely absorbed. Find out which are the best creams for dark circles;
  • Peeling with acid (retinoic or glycolic): applying acid to the dark circles area is a powerful type of aesthetic treatment, as it promotes cell renewal and reduces the pigmentation of the skin under the eyes, being more suitable for cases of genetic dark circles, which are very dark and well marked;
  • Laser: It is a treatment that must be carried out by a specialized dermatologist or physiotherapist, and consists of releasing pulsed light, which reaches the melanocytes, evening out skin tone and stimulating collagen production. Discover more laser treatments for the face;
  • Filling with hyaluronic acid: this treatment is normally indicated for cases of deep dark circles, since, when applying this product, there is a reduction in tear troughs, which helps to reduce and disguise dark circles;
  • Carboxytherapy: It is a treatment made with small injections of carbon dioxide that, when applied to the area, helps to lighten the skin around the eyes and combat puffy dark circles. See how carboxytherapy for dark circles works.

Whatever the chosen therapy, you need to be aware that if the dark circles are of genetic origin, they will probably never be completely eliminated, but they can be alleviated. See more about aesthetic treatments for dark circles.
