How to get from Viracopos to São Paulo

How to get from Viracopos to São Paulo

South America

It’s folks, it’s not easy for anyone: as soon as the end of the year arrives, air ticket prices skyrocket. When the digits that appear next to the flights don’t match your wallet at all, it’s time to look for alternative solutions.

The first is to look for bargains at outlying airports. This is the case of Viracopos airport, which, with the arrival of Azul and the consequent increase in flights leaving and arriving there, ended up becoming a good option for those traveling to the capital of São Paulo. In the last five years, there has been a 300% increase in the number of landings and takeoffs there and today more than 600,000 people travel there every day. The airport, which was the 20th largest in the country, now occupies the 10th position.

But whoever decides to disembark still faces a cruel doubt: Campinas is 80 km from São Paulo. What is the best way to cover this distance?

Rent a car

This is perhaps the most obvious option, but not always viable. At Viracopos airport there are four companies that offer this type of service: Avis, Localiza, Hertz and Unidas.

Viracopos Intercity Bus – São Paulo

There is an intercity bus that leaves from Viracopos airport and goes to Tietê bus station. The ticket costs R$17 and the journey takes around 1h30. From the bus station, you can take the metro at Portuguesa-Tietê station. The timetable for this bus is here. To buy tickets online, click here.

Azul bus

Azul offers a free bus, exclusively for passengers, that runs between Viracopos and Congonhas airport, with a stop at the Eldorado shopping mall. There is also a bus option that takes you to the Tamboré shopping mall, in Barueri, in Greater São Paulo. The company also provides free transportation to anyone going to Terminal Barra Funda, Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, Piracicaba and Sorocaba. To guarantee access to the bus, simply look for the Azul counter at the arrivals terminal and present your ticket. Buses also take the opposite route, that is, they leave São Paulo and take you to the airport.

The big “however” of this option is that it is only suitable for those flying from Azul and, depending on the time you arrive, you may have to wait up to two hours for the next bus. You can check the timetable here.

Taxi

A trip between Viracopos and the center of São Paulo costs around R$150 and R$200, which is more than I like to pay for a ticket between Belo Horizonte and São Paulo.
