All types of fabric can be dyed, so don’t be afraid, however, there are some rules that you need to keep an eye on before heading off to see. Look:

  • Cotton or 100% natural fabrics are the easiest to dye;
  • Composite fabrics do not usually respond well to dyeing;
  • Synthetic fabrics can cause problems, which is why they require a professional;
  • White, cream or very light tone fabrics are easy to deal with when dyeing;
  • Printed fabrics do not undergo changes in print, only in color;
  • Colored fabrics must be dyed with darker colors than the original;
  • The final color of a dyed colored fabric will be the sum of the combination of the base color and the color of the chosen dye;
  • The pan used to dye the piece must only be used for that purpose.

Dyeing

There are two ways to dye clothes, with boiling water or ice water. See how each one works.

Cold water

Dyeing your clothes in cold water is the simplest way to deal with this. Put some water in a bucket and add paint, add more of both until you get the desired color.

Then place the fabric in the solution and let it rest for half an hour. After this process, hang the piece on the clothesline from the inside out and the ends and wait for it to dry in the shade. Okay, it’s dyeing.

Hot water

In this process, the ideal is for you to boil two liters of water in a pan, mixing a tube of dye. Now boil another two liters in another pan.

Dissolve the solution from the pan with water and dye in the pure water in the other container and mix. Let it boil for 40 minutes, always stirring with the stick to avoid staining. Carefully remove the clothing and let it dry.
