I chose the Hotel Diplomat in Stockholm, on my recent trip to the capital swedish O Hotel Diplomat cam or selo World Hotelsalways a good option when looking for stylish hotels, most of which are boutique.
Well the Diplomat surpassed himself. Very well located, facing Lake Östersjön, it is a hotel with soul: vibrant in the right way, charming, without losing its historical characteristics: an art nouveau palace, managed by the same family for four generations, which knows how to renew itself without harming its origins and which became a hotel in 1966.
Right away, you can notice the interest in art that the hotel owners have, due to the countless works spread throughout the spaces, in addition to the fact that, from time to time, it hosts exhibitions by local artists.
In total, there are 130 rooms divided into six different categories. Mine, one delux sea viewit was super comfortable with a great size, 30 m2, king size bed, two armchairs, a desk, as well as a piece of furniture with shelves and enough space to store a hand luggage.
Despite being on the first floor, the noise-proof glass didn’t let any noise through and it also had the advantage of a beautiful view of the boats. Upon arrival, I caught a beautiful sunset from the window.
The bathroom, with marble floors and a toilet in a separate toilet, was also functional, complete with a bathtub and good beauty products. The countertop could have been a little bigger, but at least the bathtub part helped to fit the necessities of a non-minimalist couple. Bathrobes and slippers, always very welcome, were at our disposal, as well as a hairdryer and ironing board.
The technological devices left nothing to be desired: the telephone was a very modern cell phone and the 180 cm plasma TV was great! The free Wi-Fi also worked really well during my stay.
We return to the hotel’s greatest asset: its location, in Österlmalm, one of the city’s most interesting and cool neighborhoods. In a quick walk we reached Museum Island, Djurgården, one of the main tourist attractions in Stockholm and you could also walk to the old city and the Royal Palace, another famous attraction in the city.

O Diplomat It is also next to the most sophisticated neighborhood, full of good restaurants and cafes, Stureplan. And what’s more, it is from the port in front of the hotel that boats depart for tourist tours. In other words, it is a strategic location.
On the first morning, still under the effect of jet lag, we missed breakfast time and already starving, we went to the closest one, practically below the hotel: friendly and delicious. In other words, for those who like walking, this is the hotel perfect. There is no need to take public transport, which actually works wonderfully well in Stockholm. Of course, anyone who wants can venture out and do all these routes by bike, like true Swedes, but I confess that the cold didn’t cheer me up that much. And for those who want to go further afield, the subway is also right there.

In fact, the hotel’s restaurant and bar are super popular, always busy, and one of the busiest in the city. A good option to have a drink before or after dinner and where locals mingle with tourists. The view of the port contributes to the success of the restaurant, which has Swedish food on the menu, with a Mediterranean influence. The breakfast buffet, served there too, is plentiful and very tasty, with countless options.
O Diplomat It also has a small gym and spa and was named the best Swedish hotel by Hotel Diplomat Condé Nast Traveler readers in 2014 and won the title of Traveller’s Choice (Travellers’ Choice) and Certificate of Excellence award based on reviews do TripAdvisor.
It was a delight to spend three days in such a charming and comfortable hotel, in a first world city, and without even wanting to get into a car. Oh good life!
