It’s not new that women turn to highlights to get that magazine-cover blonde hair, since, in addition to the more natural effect, it’s not necessary to dye your hair completely.
However, the lights dry out the strands and, with each touch-up, more lights are removed, becoming a problem for the health of the strands and, over time, this only gets worse. Therefore, it is necessary to take extra care so that they do not look “spiky”, dry, opaque and full of frizz.
I’m receiving a lot of emails asking for “help” from women who get highlights and then don’t know how to deal with their lifeless, dry hair.
With that in mind, I decided to put together several homemade moisturizing recipes for colored and highlighted hair. So, paper and pen, write it down!

Understand how the structure of wires is made up
Hair strands are made up of:
- 85% keratin (composed of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur);
- 12% water and;
- 3% lipids.
The hair strand has three parts:
To cuticle: The most superficial part of the strands, formed by overlapping scales, which provide protection to the strands from aggression (physical and chemical). When exposing hair to chemicals, the cuticles lose their natural strength, causing the strands to become extremely fragile.
Cortex: It is the second layer of the yarn. This is where water is present, which keeps the hair hydrated, and keratin, which gives elasticity and resistance to the hair.
Marrow: It is the central layer of the thread, which supports and gives structure to the threads.

What happens when we bleach our hair?
![Woman in salon bleaching her hair](https://storelatina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/1712275991_205_Homemade-hydration-for-highlighted-highlighted-or-dyed-hair.jpg)
The pigment that gives color to the hair is in the second layer of the hair (cortex). When applying the bleaching powder to the hair, the cuticles immediately open and the pigment (color) begins to be removed from the hair.
The problem is that, along with the pigment, all the essential nutrients to keep hair healthy, such as water and keratin, also come out. That’s why it’s very important to take special care before and after bleaching.
One tip is, after coloring or bleaching, discover the nutritional needs of your hair and make your hair schedule an ally.

Coloring, or dye, is an alkaline-based chemical product that basically swells the hair fiber, causing the scales to open and the pigment to enter and fix inside the strands, providing a new shade to the hair.
Today, there are already a large number of keratin-rich products on the market for more complete care of highlighted hair, however, quality products for caring for blonde or colored hair are quite expensive.
Therefore, the tip is to turn to good, old, cheap and infallible homemade recipes, which are as good or even better than industrialized products.
With simple ingredients that you usually have in the kitchen, they can help save your hair. Your hair will certainly look beautiful and hydrated.
It is worth highlighting that: The secret to homemade hydration is massage, so massage your hair for at least one minute on each strand.
