Insect bites cause painful reactions and a feeling of discomfort, which can be alleviated with home remedies based on lavender, witch hazel or oats, for example.
However, if the insect bite develops into a serious allergic reaction or if other symptoms appear, you should see a doctor immediately, as natural measures will not be enough to treat the problem.
1. Lavender compress

Lavender is a great option for insect bites, due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and tea tree is antiseptic.
Ingredients
- 4 drops of lavender essential oil;
- 4 drops of tea tree essential oil;
- 2.5 L of water.
Preparation mode
To prepare this home remedy, simply add the essential oils to very cold water and mix well. Then, moisten a clean towel in the solution and apply it to the affected area, leaving it to act for approximately 10 minutes. This procedure must be repeated twice a day.
2. Herbal lotion

Witch hazel is a mild astringent and helps soothe inflammation, peppermint soothes irritated skin and relieves itching, and lavender is anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial.
Ingredients
- 30 mL of witch hazel extract;
- 20 drops of peppermint essential oil;
- 20 drops of lavender essential oil.
Preparation mode
Mix the ingredients in a bottle, shake well and apply with a little cotton wool whenever necessary.
3. Oatmeal bath

A soothing bath with oatmeal and lavender essential oil soothes the itching and irritation caused by hives.
Ingredients
- 200 g of oat flakes;
- 10 drops of lavender essential oil.
Preparation mode
Grind the oats in a mill until you obtain a fine flour and place in a bathtub of warm water along with the lavender oil. Then just soak the area to be treated for 20 minutes and dry the skin without rubbing.
