Opened just over a month ago in a privileged location, between Marapendi Lagoon surrounded by native forest and Praia da Barrawith blue-green waters, is the Grand Hyatt Barra da Tijuca – a complex 5 stars designed by the Canadian architectural firm Yabu Pushelberg, which offers, with excellence, gastronomy diversified structure for corporate and social events, as well as a lot of comfort for guests who, like me, visit to rest.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the only hotel of this size in Rio de Janeiro. I was really impressed!

I spent a weekend staying in a beautiful and very comfortable suite on the 7th floor – in the Grand Lounge – overlooking the beach and lagoon. During those two days I also visited the restaurants and tried the Atiaia spa services to be able to say that, yes, the Grand Hyatt should be a mandatory stop for anyone going to Rio and search for days of peace and VIP treatment.

Not only the kitchen service or the treatments at Atiaia impressed me, but also the extreme cordiality and attention with which all of the staff – from check in to the check out – treat guests.

Even though it is very close to the shopping centers of Barrato be urban resort it makes the guest barely want to set foot outside – given the many amenities and facilities it offers. Starting with the 3 restaurants: Cantô, with contemporary Brazilian food; Shiso, Japanese haute cuisine and Tano, the multipurpose Italian that serves one of the best brunches of recent times. Ah, all of them planned by architect Arthur Casas, which already guarantees incredible environments!

At Cantô I was able to try several well-prepared snacks that represent Brazilian ingredients from north to south: tapioca cubes, crab cakes, tuber chips and an excellent minced meat in dark beer with a cracked egg on top. The drinks menu, very interesting and in different combinations, also features a selection of Brazilian cachaças from important names such as Preciosa 23 years old and Vale Verde 12 years old.

At Shiso, chef Miriam Moriyama’s precision sets the tone for the very fresh sashimi and sushi cuts combined with the most seasonal, like the oysters that had arrived the day I dined there. The 4-stroke omakase is a way to showcase the chef’s skill and combine a piece from each section of the menu. Even better if you reserve a seat at the large wooden counter that surrounds the kitchen.

Tano is the restaurant that makes guests long for long lunches there, with views of Marapendi Lagoon and spacious environments, both the beautiful internal hall and the pleasant external balcony. A buffet breakfast is served there daily, lunch from Monday to Saturday also in buffet format and dinner a la carte daily. But it’s on Sundays that it shows its best: a mega complete brunch, with breads, cakes, fruits, desserts, salads, seafood, hot and cold dishes; from noon to 4pm.

All restaurants are open to non-guests – which makes it easier to get to know a little of the Grand Hyatt during the Olympicsat which time you will have reservations for accommodation completely exhausted. There will even be a special menu for the Olympic games at Cantô: there are five recipes inspired by the continents participating in the competition + colorful caipirinhas inspired by the colors of the Olympic flag. In addition to the gastronomic selection, there will be large screens so that visitors can follow the main events of the major sporting event.
