Beauty

Gagging is a technique that consists of opening the hair cuticles to prepare gray hair for coloring.

If you have gray hair or very thick, dark hair, you know how difficult it is to achieve a uniform color after coloring. However, we have good news: there is a technique called gagging that, in fact, promises to solve this very common problem.

Gagging is a technique that consists of opening the hair cuticles to prepare the hair for coloring. Therefore, it helps the pigment penetrate deeply even into the most resistant strands, such as gray hair.

So, are you interested in finding out more? Continue here and we, at Àrea de Mulher, will explain to you exactly how to carry out the gagging process. Furthermore, throughout our article, we will clarify some information about the technique that you need to know before carrying it out.

Gagging, how is it done?

Firstly, it is important to remember that the gagging technique must be done with the help of a colorist, in a beauty salon, to avoid possible stains on the hair.

However, to accomplish it, there is not much mystery! The gagging is done using low volume hydrogen peroxide, such as vol10, to force the scales of the hair fiber to open.

Before coloring your hair, apply peroxide to gray hair and wait for it to dry. Then, with the hair dry, just apply the desired dye. Following this process, the cuticles open more, therefore facilitating penetration and increasing the durability of the color.

For people with gray hair, the technique should only be done in the most prominent areas, as those with thick strands can apply the gag to the entire hair.

Necessary care

To perform the gag without damaging the wires, you need to take some care, including:

  • Seek help from a beauty professional;
  • Perform a strand test before applying the gag, so there is no chance of breaking the hair;
  • Finally, after the entire gagging process, don’t forget to maintain a daily care and hydration routine.

Important: The gagging technique is not recommended for blonde or fine hair, only for those with thick, gray hair.
