Fairmont Mayakoba, luxury hotel in the Riviera Maya, not Mexico

News

We were invited to immerse ourselves in the Fairmont world and spent a few days with lots of sun and blue sea at the Mayakoba property, a luxury hotel on the Riviera Maya, in Mexico. It is only 40 minutes from Cancún Airport that separate us from the Fairmont Mayakoba, this exclusive hotel, located within an area restricted to guests only – the Mayakoba complex.

The complex

The complex also has three other luxury hotels, a golf course and a golf school. There are also the cute activity and shopping center called Pueblito. It is a reproduction of a Mexican village that includes a cafe, local craft shops, a cooking school where classes can be taken and even a church for weddings.

Furthermore, another striking feature of the Fairmont is highlighted there. The hotel is close to some of the most famous Maya temples, such as those at the archaeological sites of Coba, Chichén Itzá, Tulum and Ek Balam. The cenotes are also attractions worth visiting for anyone going to the Fairmont Mayakoba. There are underground wells with clear water in different shapes and proportions, some inside caves and others outside.

The hotel is in front of a paradisiacal beach, about 30 meters long, and next to one of the largest reefs in the world. Furthermore, they are 240 acres of rainforest intersected by crystal clear waterways. In other words, certainly a jaw-dropping scenario.

The rooms

Inside the luxury hotel in the Riviera Maya, more representations of the values that the brand values so much in relation to its guests. The staff are extremely cordial and friendly to the point that you forget that there are 401 rooms there. In fact, I received several treats during my stay.

I was very well accommodated in a room in the Signature Casita category, which was extremely cozy. It is 45 m² and has a balcony overlooking the mangrove, desk, king bed, closet and bathroom with hydromassage and shower.

To get to know the entire property, options are to take a boat ride through the mangrove forest that surrounds the hotel and/or take a ride on one of the golf carts that travel day and night through the tree-lined avenues. Or, just take one of the many bicycles available inside the Fairmont Mayakoba.

Gastronomy and Spa

After exploring the hotel for so long, there’s nothing like good, authentic Mexican food to replenish your energy! The gastronomy of Fairmont clearly values the best of local culture. There are three restaurants, such as La Laguna, where local Mexican flavors are explored to the fullest and unusual ingredients such as Chicaltana ants, for example, become attractions in the Mexican “pizza” made with tortillas.

Meanwhile, at Brisas, where breakfast is also served, facing the beach, the focus is on fish and seafood. At El Puerto, the Latin-Asian fusion cuisine signed by chef Richard Sandoval dominates the menu.

If your goal is relaxation, there’s nothing like an afternoon (or several!) well spent at the Willow Stream spa. Located inside a building dedicated to therapy rooms, the spa offers various massages with creams and oils made from Maya ingredients. Like, for example, the Chocolate Body Mask I made that left a silky touch all over my skin.

The Fairmont Mayakoba is, therefore, a resort with a boutique hotel feel – such is the care of the staff in serving all guests and the welcoming atmosphere throughout the property.

The first Fairmont in Brazil

The luxury hotel chain is celebrating its first unit in Central and Latin America, which arrives in Brazil this year, in famous Copacabana waterfront, in Rio. The brand is recognized for being present in iconic locations around the world, with hotels always surrounded by a strong historical context. This will be no different at the new Copacabana unit, certainly one of the most representative postcards of Brazil in the world.

More about the Fairmont Copacabana

The same care with the facilities, service and comfort that I saw in Mayakobais expected in Copacabana. With an architectural design designed by Patricia Anastassiadis, the new hotel will bring together contemporary elements and the Rio soul in its best style. Materials such as stones and wood typical of the city will be prioritized in the elegant and delicate features of the project.

Those who are not staying at the Fairmont Copacabana will also be able to admire the view of the Copacabana waterfront from different areas of the hotel, when visiting the restaurant, bar, café and other areas that will be open to the public, such as the Spa.

The swimming pools also complete the common areas, with a privileged location and integrated with the bar and restaurant. In addition, two floors reserved for events and conventions. According to the AccorHotelswhich owns the brand, is expected to open in April 2019.
