As we age, the eye area requires more special treatment, so find out how to take care of this part of your body.
Our body needs regular care. Not only to feel more beautiful, but also to maintain our health. Some parts, however, require more delicate and routine care, which is the case with the eye area. In this specific region, we can notice the age and routine that the person has, due to the appearance of wrinkles, expression marks, bags and dark circles.
To prevent the appearance of these marks or even remedy them, adopting some routines in your daily life helps a lot. In other words, this region requires attention due to its proximity to the eyeball, meaning no product can be applied.
Another special action in the eye area is massages. As it is a hypervascularized region, massaging this area helps combat the formation of bags and dark circles, preventing the appearance of tiredness.
How do dark circles and wrinkles appear?
The human face has many muscles despite being relatively small compared to other animals. However, we have and make many expressions throughout our lives, moving the jaw and eye area in almost every conversation. Due to this extreme use, it is common for expression lines and marks to appear on the face, including in the eye area.
This region is made up of a very thin layer of skin, which makes it easier for wrinkles to settle over the years. The aging process also contributes to the loss of collagen, which consequently facilitates the appearance of blemishes, sagging and wrinkles. Dark circles under the eyes can also be influenced by these factors, however, their origin has more specific indications.
There are currently some classifications of dark circles, which are: melanic, blood, vascular and constitutional. Due to these classifications, visiting a dermatologist before treating this problem is recommended, as the origin of dark circles may be linked to genetic, hormonal or behavioral factors. Bags, finally, are a consequence of the accumulation of liquids and/or fats, resulting from poor diet, sleep deprivation, alcohol and cigarette consumption.
Care routines
In addition to specific products, some actions can help prevent and also treat the appearance of dark circles, wrinkles and bags in the eye area.
Makeup removal
This step is already part of many people’s daily care routine, especially in skincare. However, when it comes to this region, you need to pay more attention when cleaning. Due to the accumulation of makeup in this area, especially mascara, it can contribute to the formation of blemishes and dark circles.
Massage
As previously mentioned, the eye area is highly vascularized, so massaging this region can contribute to greater blood circulation, generating collagen production. This consequently slows down the formation of bags and wrinkles. There is a very simple technique, with your middle fingers, start by applying light pressure on the outside of the eye, then move in the direction from the nose to the eyelids. After this movement, also massage your temples and do a few more movements, like the previous one.
Glasses and sunscreen
Even though it may seem strange at first, applying sunscreen to the eye area can help combat the formation of dark spots and reduce dark circles. Wearing glasses, especially during walks and hikes, where there is greater exposure to sunlight, helps protect the sensitive skin in this region.
Some treatments for the eye area
If you don’t feel any improvements with this daily care, there are some products and treatments that can help you. However, it is recommended to consult a dermatologist and for some of these procedures, you should seek help from an aesthetics professional.
Vitamin C
This vitamin, in addition to being found in foods, can also be added to some cosmetic products. In the case of vitamin C for the eye area, there are creams, ointments and types of gel, facilitating skin absorption and contact with the substance. This substance is good because it is a powerful antioxidant, which works to stimulate collagen production and reduce bags. Vitamin C also works to reverse signs of aging caused by exposure to UV rays.
Hyaluronic acid
Produced by our body, hyaluronic acid is a great ally in maintaining skin hydration. It is perfect when added to products, as rejection and allergy rates are low. However, if you are looking for faster results, using acid may not satisfy you, as it is a long-term investment. Functioning, after all, as a preventative measure against wrinkles and dark circles.
Botulinum toxin
More popularly known as Botox, botulinum toxin injections are common in treatments for wrinkles and expression lines. It basically works like a paralyzer, remember we mentioned earlier that we move our facial muscles a lot? Well, if you can’t move, you won’t score. And that’s how botox works. Application sessions vary around two to three per year, but must be carried out by an authorized professional.
Blepharoplasty
Without a doubt, it is the most invasive procedure on this list, as it is plastic surgery. This procedure involves removing excess skin from the eye area and lasts for 10 years. However, this surgery is most recommended for patients whose vision is already being affected by excess skin.
