At 13 years old, Evaristo Costa began his career working at Rádio Bandeirantes in São José dos Campos. He later completed his first internship at the University of Vale da Paraíba, where his parents, José Evaristo Merigo and Ione de Oliveira Costa Merigo, also worked. Controversy with Virginia

The controversy began when a video of the vaccination of little Maria Alice, aged 2, daughter of businesswoman Virginia Fonseca and singer Zé Felipe – son of singer Leonardo -, was reposted by an internet user. The video had the caption “Virginia: ‘Come mom, come.’ To Maria Alice: ‘I don’t even know who you are’”. The child appeared on his mother’s lap, crying, and begged to stay with the nanny before being immunized.

Presenter Evaristo Costa, like thousands of people, saw the video on his cell phone. And so, he shared it with the comment “Have you ever heard: ‘Mother is the one who raises’?”. This caused an uproar on the web and many accused the former Globo anchor of having crossed the line.

According to Virginia, she woke up in the morning with the controversy raging on the internet. In response to the criticism, she created a series of stories, where she cried, highlighting that she never abandoned her daughters and that her family is her priority.

The influencer explained that her daughter was trying to escape from her lap to avoid the vaccine and regretted the situation. She emphasized that she has always hired nannies to cope with her work schedule, receiving support from fans who stated that this doesn’t make anyone any less of a mother. Although over the years Virginia has suffered constant attacks on the networks, she said she did not understand the hate and once again demanded that her family be left alone.

And with Zé Felipe

After his wife’s reaction, Zé Felipe expressed his indignation with the situation in a video, demonstrating his irritation with Evaristo Costa’s attitude. “Telling you, the internet is f*cked. I said I didn’t want to cause trouble here in this place, but it’s fucked up“, he began.

The singer sent a simple and direct response to the journalist, calling him by name and saying: “My message is for Evaristo, the man also calls him Evaristo, for God’s sake. Hey Evaristo, go fuck yourself! Loose boy!“, he attacked.

The influencer’s husband continued to express his indignation with other internet critics, warning that many say what they want behind the screen because they don’t have the courage to ‘say it to their face’. Zé Felipe also suggested that, in defense of Virginia Fonseca – who was emotionally shaken by Ex-Globo’s comments –, would physically attack Evaristo or anyone else who said anything about his family in front of him.

Virgínia’s mother, Margareth Serrão, also came to her daughter’s defense. “This guy Evaristo Costa, ‘Evaristo shit’, had the courage to say that about my daughter, Virgínia” she said, outraged, on her social networks. “Virginia is a super mother, a woman who works, manages, is an excellent wife and mother. You don’t know anything, man. You don’t live with it on a daily basis. How do you have the courage to make such stupid comments? You say you’re a journalist, but you’re a clown, an idiot“, continued. Apology

After such an impact, the journalist took to social media to apologize. “I’m for peace, don’t argue where there is no controversy. I could say so much about parenting, but my lawyers are on vacation right now. If anyone felt offended, I’m here to apologize.” he said in his Instagram stories.

Later he spoke again, this time tagging the couple’s @ “Dear @virginia, @zefelipecantor and family. I saw how shaken they were by a comment I made on Twitter. I’ve already apologized in a general way, but I’m here to direct my apologies to you. I Googled it and discovered how harshly you are already criticized for this. CNN dismissal

In 2021, Evaristo Costa returned from his vacation and noticed the absence of his program in the new schedule that was being announced on the CNN Brasil channel while he was watching television. He says that he called, intending to ask why, and received the answer that he had been fired and that his services were no longer needed.

Evaristo Costa used his Twitter profile to inform his followers that he was no longer part of the CNN Brasil team. He reported that he did not understand the reason why he was terminated, since he did not receive any type of communication from the broadcaster regarding the completion of his contract. He also stated that, later, they tried to convince him to say that they agreed on the end of his contribution, but he refused. Therefore, he maintained that his commitment was to the truth and he would not lie to the people who trusted his work.

According to Ricardo Feltrin, columnist at UOL, Evaristo had intentions of suing the broadcaster after the way they fired him. The journalist denied the existence of any possibility regarding this process.
