There are different types of fragrances, which cannot be classified simply as “perfumes”.

Here are some tips to help you get to know them better!

1. PERFUME & PERFUME EXTRACT

When we ask: “What are the types of perfume?”, you end up classifying these two types separately.

In fact, Parfum and Extrait de Parfum are the same thing.

Knowing the types of fragrances

This kind of fragrance Fragrance oil features between 15% and 40%, but typically sits at 20%, according to the International Fragrance Association.

These perfumes are longer lasting, tend to be more expensive, and often come in small bottles.

2. EAU DE PARFUM, VINTAGE, TOILET PERFUME

The standard dilution for eau de parfum is between 10% and 20% fragrance oil, but it is almost always less than 15%.
These scents are more noticeable than the others, which can make them very good for a date, but may not be advisable for a work office situation or when you are going indoors.

3. TOILET WATER

This is the type of fragrance for daily use, because it is very light.

They have 5% to 15% fragrance oil and tend to cost less than parfum. And because it costs less, you can try a wider variety of scents without breaking the bank.

Lighter and less complex, an option to test a perfume before moving on to the stronger concentration.

4. COLOGNE, EAU DE COLOGNE

There is a lot of confusion about the term colony.

For some it refers to masculine fragrances; others think of a light perfume for daily use.

Cologne features around 5% fragrance oil and sometimes its formulation is a little different from the scent it is supposed to resemble, often featuring more citrus notes.

They are normally sold in larger bottles and have lower prices.

5. BODY SPLASH, AFTERSHAVE

These are some of the most diluted types of fragrances, containing fragrance oil at a concentration of 1% to 3%.
They are for use on the entire body and must be reapplied frequently. This makes them excellent for giving a feeling of rebloom on a hot day.

Aftershave contains the same amount of fragrance oils but is intended for use after shaving for a refreshing sensation.

6. PERFUME MIST, PARFUM MIST, PERFUME VEIL, PERFUME EAU

These are light fragrances with 3% to 8% fragrance oils. The solvent, however, is not alcohol.

They emerged in the 1990s, and were created so that they could be sprayed on or near the face without burning the eyes. Additionally, they have been improved to be a hypoallergenic option.

8. SECRET OF PERFUME

This is a specific variation used by Yves Saint Laurent for his Opium perfume in the 1990s.

The concentration was similar to that used for eau de parfum, but it had a greasier tone that seemed to overshadow some parts of the perfume.

However, some people loved it, and vintage bottles of it can be found all over the internet.
