Why should you use wood in decor?

This question is not difficult to answer. But the answer is long! Wood is one of the simplest materials, and yet more valuable we can use in decoration.

It is a renewable and extremely diverse natural resource. There are several species of trees that can offer their wood to the decore, many natural colors and beautiful dyes, and various applications.

Wood can, for example, be directly related to the architectural functions of the house. In this case, adorn the walls, floor, doors, columns or even trimmings.

On the other hand, it can be the raw material of furniture and other decorative objects. In Scandinavian design, for example, it is a muse of basically all interior decoration — prevalent in chairs, sofas, and linings.

Below, let’s tell you some of the reasons why she’s so sweet all over the globe—and why you should take advantage of it to create your home, sweet home.

1. The wood heats the environments

When we decorate houses and apartments, we have two main priorities: leaving the space with the resident’s face is the first. After all, your home should be one of your favorite corners of the world, with all your personality.

The second is to offer a lot of warmth through the solutions of décor. This is where wood comes in: it is universally known for heating the environments.

For this reason, for example, it is so used to compose chalets and country houses. Moreover, evidently, it has the rustic effect characteristic of these places!

2.The decoration with wood combines with everything

It is by speaking of rustic that we come to the next reason to decorate with wood. She is versatile!

With light woods, you can create a contemporary space inspired by Scandinavian design or Japanese minimalism. The dark woods, combined with the effect of burnt cement, generate a modern and quite urban house. It all depends on how you choose to combine!

As we have already commented, because it is a natural resource it exists in various forms, types and tones. This means that in this world there is at least one type of certified wood that matches your décor.

If you don’t find it, no problem. Wooden plates (and even solid wood) can be dyed or painted to achieve the desired effect. Did you see that cool?

3. You can dye, stain or paint the wood

Mix de madeira natural e colorida

As you may have noticed, there is a difference between dyeing and painting a wood. When we talk about dyeing, we refer to stain (mancha). This is a type of wood finish. As a result, it has a slight tonal difference from the material in its most natural state.

The stain is, in a way, relative of the varnish — that we use a lot for waterproofing and protection of wood in outdoor areas against UV rays. It can also change the tone of the parts or coatings a little bit.

However, while stain is mated and preserves the veins and organic characteristics of the wood, the varnish offers a bright and smoother layer. It forms a sort of protective film on it.

This is also a bit of what happens when we paint the wood. In this case, the paint creates new layers on the original material. Here, the colors and finishes can be quite different — you can paint your wood blue and screw it, for example, to ensure a vintage mood in the decor.

Bacana, isn’t it? Just be careful about the paints. If you are painting a wooden furniture at home, prefer the acrylic paint, easy to apply and reasonably resistant. And always do it in open environments, you see? On the contrary, always hire a qualified professional!

With this kind of décor trick, you can even completely transform an old wooden furniture. – How about it? Below, you check out the before and after a chest of chests of a completely redesigned with a little color.

4.It brings texture to space

Regardless of your favorite decorative style, one thing is certain: textures are essential. They are present in the fabrics, coatings and finishes of their furniture.

There are those who love, for example, the texture of the suede. So much so that a few years ago they created paints and techniques that bring the effect of the fabric to the walls in a very practical way.

In the same way, the natural textures of wood are universally loved. Because it is an organic material, there is not one piece of wood that is the same as the other. We can still intervene to adapt this texture a little to our tastes – leaving it more rustic, or sanding and polishing the pieces.

This makes the decoration with wood something always unique to that furniture or house!

Differences between types of wooden board

When we search for wooden furniture, we find several information that needs to be decrypted. It is very important, first of all, to ensure the provenance of the raw material. It must be certified, with proof of good conduct in forest management, okay?

Apart from this, in addition to solid wood there are some types of products composed by wood widely used in furniture. Each of them has specific characteristics that influence and a lot in the purchase! Below, you can check out the two most popular.

MDF

Let’s start with the MDF. The acronym stands for Medium Density Fiberboard. Therefore, it is a plaque made from wood fibers!

These fibers are combined with a synthetic resin. Then they are compacted with a lot of pressure and heat, in a press for the task. Because they are very small, the fibers have a good compaction potential. Therefore, they generate a sturdy and reasonably durable plate, and MDF products end up being cheaper than solid wood products.

MDP

MDP stands for Medium Density Particleboard (medium density particle board). Like MDF, it is a compacted panel. However, in place of the fibers, it is made of wood particles.

The agglutination process is exactly the same as the MDF. The difference is that while an MDF board is composed of several “lews” of the material joints, MDP is made of two thin layers and a thick one. It is not very malleable, so it is used to compose simple furniture such as cabinets and bedside tables. It also has a lower cost.

How to decorate with wood: valuable tips and tricks

The times of decorating everything with the same wooden tone are gone! Yes, they did exist. In the past, the idea was that wood should always be the same among all elements of an environment. As well as in fashion we used to say that the bag and the shoe should have the same color, for example!

But with time and new trends, we realize how beautiful it can be. And now, we share with you four tips to use different shades of wood in the decoration.

1. Bet on the contrasts

Have you ever stopped to think about how nature’s color palette is unique and perfectly combined? It would be no different with wood. Different shades of the material look beautiful together — especially in contrast!

The only care you need to take is not to exaggerate the elements of dark wood, thus preventing the environment from getting too heavy visually. Unless that is your goal.

Enjoy and value what you have at home! We say this because here in Brazil the wooden floors – such as boarding or the “top floor” – are quite popular and can be used in your favor.

The tip of Fashion Bubbles is to create a contrast between the floor and some furniture of its decoration with wood. Thus, their furniture stands out in relation to the base of the environment, instead of mixing perfectly.

2Choose a main tone

Before decorating the house, take a while just to think about the type of wood you like the most. Choose it as your “main wood” – the one that will be present in greater quantities in the environments. It can make up an “accent wall”, for example.

Then, just choose a secondary wooden tone. It will appear in smaller doses on the decor — on some shelf, in the armchair details or in small decorative objects.

With this formula it is simpler to combine different shades of decoration with wood, preserving the harmony of your space.

3. Start with a piece statement

Can’t choose a wooden tone to be the star of the show – or better, the decor? It’s okay. It’s okay. Try to choose a featured furniture first!

Every environment has a piece that characterizes it. While in the bedroom this furniture is the mix of bed and headboard, in the living room can be the sofa or the TV rack, for example. In the dining room, it can be a beautiful buffet or an elegant table.

In this case, this piece should be made of wood. From it, you can insert other organic elements in the decoration without fear, as long as they do not stand out to the main furniture. This way it is easier to decorate with balance!

4.Finish with a carpet

Last but not least: when there is doubt, a carpet can save you. In rooms like the living room, he is one of those responsible for anchoring the environment.

Therefore, a beautiful neutral carpet can help you to soften the décor, create unity and in a certain way connect your wooden furniture in the process.
