Complete guide to enjoy the festival

South America

Universo Paralello is one of the most iconic electronic music and alternative culture festivals in Brazil, held every two years at the paradisiacal beach of Pratigi, Bahia. The 2024 edition promises to be even more unforgettable, with incredible attractions, stunning scenery and unique experiences.

If you are thinking about participating in this magical celebration, it is essential to plan your trip well to ensure a perfect experience.

In this post, we will give valuable tips and suggestions on how to organize your adventure for the Paralello Universe 2024, from the purchase of tickets to the choice of the best accommodation.

Will Universe Paralello be in 2024? When is the next one?

The Paralello Universe will take place in 2024. The organization of the festival announced, in March, the 17th edition of the festival for the 27th of December 2023 to January 3, 2024.

Traditionally, the festival takes place every 2 years. However, the edition expected to be held at the turn of 2021 to 2022 ended up not occurring thanks to the pandemic. Perhaps to make up for this gap, the event will be held again at the turn of 2024.

How to buy tickets from the Paralello Universe 2023/24

Tickets from the Paralello Universe are sold on the official website of the event.

So far, the organization has not disclosed the values for the edition of 2023/24.

Just to give you an idea, the second lot of the 2022/23 edition sold for R $ 1,960. The fourth and last lot came out for R $ 2,960.

There is the option of buying a half of solidarity, with the donation of 1 kg of non-perishable food, valid for students, teachers and military with mandatory proof through photo document.

It is not possible to buy tickets for just one day of event. The only entry option available is for every day.

Programming and structure of the Paralello Universe 2023/24

Although the programming and structure specific to the Paralello 2023/24 Universe may vary slightly from past editions, you can get a general idea of what to expect based on previous editions.

The festival takes place over 8 days, between the end of December and the beginning of January, and has several attractions and activities for the participants.

Understanding the map of the Paralello Universe

The map is old, the structure of the Paralello Universe remains the same throughout the editions, with some point changes in the location of some clues and spaces.

Basically, the festival is divided into two areas: the one that is close to the beach and the one that is inside the mangrove, behind that patch in green in the middle, which is the local vegetation.

Stages, tents and thematic spaces

Festival lovers will be able to meet the classic and iconic stages Universe, which add a huge variety of musical, cultural and artistic performances.

The 2022 edition featured 8 tracks spread across 13 distinct areas and more than 1000 attractions, and this structure is expected to look like next year.

The classic tracks of the event are:

  • Main Floor
  • UP Club
  • Tortuga
  • 303 Stage
  • Palco Paralello
  • Chill Out
  • He has circulated
  • Tropikalien

In addition to these, the last editions also had new and alternative stages, adding even more to the festival, which every year seeks to gather a more eclectic audience. In 2022, highlight the alternative track and Syncro, which received attractions such as Mamba Negra, from São Paulo.

In addition to music, the festival offers a wide range of activities and workshops such as yoga, meditation, dance, martial arts, holistic therapies and art workshops.

These activities usually take place in alternative spaces and thematic tents, providing participants with a more diverse and entertaining experience of the festival.

Line Up, workshops and activities

The line up and the calendar of workshops and activities of UP 2023/24 has not yet been disclosed by the organization and should take place in the months before the event.

Camping and bathroom structure

The bathrooms are the big weak point of the event organization and unless no significant changes, it is good to prepare your spirit for the next.

The structure is composed of wooden cabins that function as septic tanks. At the end of the event, these cesspools are buried, supposedly in a sustainable way. But the main criticism is the number of cabins available, insufficient to meet the more than 30,000 people who circulate through the event.

Smighty Tip: Find out the time of cleaning the bathrooms near your tent or the stages and schedule to use them at those hours. The experience is much more pleasant, believe me.

For bathing, the situation is a better good, although many people complain about the smell and coloring of the mangrove water, which is piped and distributed in the showers.

However, there is no escaping this, since the festival is organized on a semi-desert beach and the entire sanitation structure is set up there by the organization of the event. The water of the mangrove is the characteristic of the nature of the region.

Therefore, the best tip is to keep clothes clear at home (since they can be stained because of the pigmentation of water).

Food Square

If the bathrooms leave to be desired, the festival surprises by the food. The offer and variety of gastronomic options in the Paralello Universe are, in fact, positive points that deserve to be highlighted.

The event strives to meet the needs of all participants by providing vegan and vegetating options, international and local foods.

There are two food courts at the festival, one in the area of the mangrove and the other on the beach, where you can buy pizza, pasta and hamburgers, Brazilian specialties and even other parts of the world. In addition, you can also take food, as long as in quantities consistent with your own consumption, and prepare your meal in the collective kitchen of the event.

Drinks are sold in bars located near the food courts and the stages. Although there are no free hydration stations, participants can enter the event taking water for their own consumption.

It is not allowed to enter with alcoholic beverages, but the organization of the event allows participants to take a bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate the turn of the year on New Year’s Eve.

In attende and safety

There is no phone or internet signal in the region, but in 2022 there were two booths with Starlink internet. It was possible to buy the time (R $ 15) or the daily rate (R $ 30).

One of the stalls near the Main Stage also offered lockers where you left your electronics to give charge, paying for the time of use. There were also totems with cell phone cable entry distributed by the event, but you had to find an available one and stay next to it until you charge.

In addition, the organization offers 24h Security, Save Life and Medical Post service. If you have something of value with you that you can’t leave in the tents, you can also rent a range-volume.

How to get to the Paralello Universe

The access to Pratigi is made by the BR 250, which connects the municipality of Ituberá to the village. This road has a long and tortuous stretch of land, which is quite complicated at this time of year, thanks to the constant rains.

Before you plan your trip, check out the updated information on the official website of Universo Paralello and on social networks to ensure you have the right details and are prepared to make the most of your experience at the festival.

By plane

The nearest airport is Ilhéus, but many people choose to reach Salvador as well. There it goes from the price of tickets and the availability of flights from where you live.

Transfers of Ilhéus or Salvador

From the airport, it is possible to hire transfers or a taxi/driver from the two cities directly to the festival ticket office in Pratigi or make the path on its own.

There are no official transfers from the event leaving the airports, but the organization recommends the company BR Oriente.

In these places, you will also find a huge amount of drivers offering transportation to the entrance of the event. The advantage is that you can negotiate, the disadvantage is that the transport is informal and you do not know the conditions of the car. It is at your own risk to travel with them or not.

I paid R$ 450, leaving Ilhéus, and R$ 300 returning to Itacaré. In the car there were three passengers.

Inter-inters of interest-s-Trans

It has a list of companies that make transfers from several states of Brazil, including the most distant ones, such as Paraná. This is for those who want to save on the passage and have the courage to endure several hours of road.

By car

If you choose to go by own car or rented, you can leave the vehicle in the event parking, with an extra fee.

  • Car: R$ 400
  • Motorhome: R$ 500
  • Motorcycle: R$ 250
  • Passenger: R$ 25

If you are going to rent a car, I suggest doing this in advance, since this is high season in Bahia and there is a high demand.

Pau de arara

From the festival gate to the stage area, transportation is done by wooden sticks that charge R$ 50 for the round trip, or R$ 80 for unlimited use during the event.

Where to stay in the Paralello Universe: accommodation within the event and in the village of Pratigi

There are basically three accommodation options at Universo Paralello: the traditional event camping, luxury camping and even inns and holiday homes rented by the residents of the village of Pratigi. Look at the advantages and disadvantages of each one.

Camping General

Festival has five areas of camping distributed by the event. Everyone who bought the ticket already has this option, and it is not necessary to pay anything more than the value of the entrance to arm your tent there.

In addition to the price, the advantage of staying in the campsites is that you will be next to the stages and the food courts. It may not seem like it, but the structure of the UP is immense and walking from place to place is a lot of a walk. This is the most comfortable option and close to where things actually happen.

The downside is that you will not have silence when you want to rest, since the programming of the Paralello Universe does not stop. In addition, you will have to settle for the structure of showers and bathrooms of the event.

To make your stay more comfortable, I suggest investing in comfort in your camping: have a good tent and mattresses and a couple of earplugs.

Vila Mundo Universo Paralello

Vila Mundo is the premium camp of the Paralello Universe. The place offers tents, mattresses, bed games and “room” (?) service with daily storage. In addition, there is a 24-hour security staff at the door of the camping, breakfast, hot showers, spares and a living area with wi-fi, box, restaurant and exclusive bar for guests.

Vila Mundo is inside the festival, but a little further away from the meiúca than the general campsites. Located within the festival, Vila Mundo allows you to make the most of the event.

In 2022, they also announced that they were testing a hostel structure for Vila Mundo, with rooms inside containers, but we still have no information if this novelty will be available in 2023.

The value of the packages of Vila Mundo for the next edition were also not disclosed, but in the previous editions, the price charged was:

  • Iglo Individual (1 person) – R$ 2,449,75
  • Igloo Double (2 people) – R$ 3,759,75
  • Room Double Room (2 people) – R$ 6.110

The Village of Pratigi

Another possibility to enjoy the Paralello Universe is to stay inside the village of Pratigi. There are few inns in the village, but the residents offer holiday homes for rent during the event.

This option can be interesting for those traveling with family or large group of friends. However, I need to warn that from the village to the festival is a path and so much, being necessary to take the wood of air all whenever you want to go and return to Pratigi.

Therefore, this is not the most practical option, but it can be the most comfortable. It remains to weigh if you have a soft bed and a clean bathroom make up the distance to you.

As the city basically lives from the Paralello Universe, you can expect high prices too. Here you find a list of houses and inns in the region.

How much does it cost to go to the Paralello Universe: all expenses

In addition to tickets, tickets and the price of the accommodation (if you choose to pay), you must still include the expenses with food and drinks for every day of the Paralello Universe.

At this point, you can save by taking food and water, as said before.

These were the amounts charged within the event:

  • Combo with 3 bottles of mineral water: R$ 16
  • 3 cans of Heineken: R$ 36
  • Food: between R$ 15 and R$ 40, depending on the option

Therefore, expect to spend on average R$ 100 to R$ 150 per day inside the event.

What to Wear in the Paralello Universe

Shorts, shorts, swimsuits and bikinis. Remember that the festival takes place in the summer of Bahia and the weather there is hot and humid.

Opt for light clothes, like cloth dresses that let perspire. Remember that the sun is voracious, so something to protect the face and back also goes well, like hats and cangas.

Do not forget the sunglasses and take two slippers in case you miss any.

In the few years it rains, some people complain of cold in the early hours, so it pays to take a light blouse, long-sleeved.

Have a small backpack or bag, preferably waterproof, to carry your belongings, such as telephone, wallet, sunscreen and water bottle.

What to bring to the Paralello Universe (and what can’t)

https://youtube.com/watch?v=CLm6C5ciRLE%3Ffeature%3Doembed
  1. Clothes and personal items: Dress according to the weather and take items of personal hygiene, such as toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo and deodorant.
  2. Tent and camping equipment: Take your tent, mattress or inflatable mattress, sleeping bag and pillow.
  3. Water and food: mineral water and food are allowed in quantities suitable for consumption. Even if you are not cooking, I recommend taking some light snacks, such as pacasque and chestnuts.
  4. Sparkling bottle: Participants can take a bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate the turn of the year.
  5. Backpack, bag or bag: Take a waterproof backpack or bag to carry your personal items.
  6. Medications: If necessary, take your medicines accompanied by the prescription.

Here I published a list with everything that was in my backpack for the festival.

What is not allowed at the festival

It is not allowed to enter with alcoholic beverages in any quantity and food intended for sale (only for personal consumption) or items that pose security risks, such as glass bottles.

The entry of animals, firearms or other dangerous objects is prohibited, inspections, searches and removal of unauthorized objects at the entrance may be carried out.

The entry of persons with violent behavior, aggressive or contrary to public order will be denied, as well as those who refuse to dispose of objects not allowed or unauthorized.

Tips to enjoy the Paralello Universe safely

To enjoy the Paralello Universe safely and ensure an unforgettable experience, follow these tips:

Food, hydration and rest

It’s easy to forget to eat and hydrate when you’re on the track (beer doesn’t count, you see?). Always drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially under the strong sun and during dancing, to avoid dehydration.

Remember to eat your meals and consume enough foods to have energy during the festival.

Apply sunscreen with high sun protection factor (SPF) regularly, even on cloudy days, and wear hats and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun. I’m serious, the sun of Bahia is one for each one.

And be sure to get some rest. You will need to make choices, because if you turn around at night, you will have to sleep during the day, when it is very hot and the shadows are disputed. Therefore, choose your moments of rest well so as not to get along with the rest of the event.

When the tent is too hot, a good option is to nap in the Chill Out or on the beach, where the ocean breeze beats. The important thing is to respect the limits of your body.

Care for your belongings

Keep your personal belongings, such as documents, money and electronic devices, always with you. There are some cases of theft to the tents, so I do not advise leaving important things inside.

Keep an eye on them too when you are on the track. If you miss something, you can try to get it back at the information post. I saw a lot of people find back the lost phone like this and I gave myself an iPhone there.

But as there is only one post, it may be that the person he found takes a little to pass through there and return. Don’t lose hope!

Emergencies and first aid

If you are sick or hurt, look for someone from the event organization or go to the medical care station.

You can take basic medications with you, but the festival also has a pharmacy in case you need something. Do not stop asking for help.

The event offers a harm reduction service for people who feel bad (physically or psychologically) due to the abuse of any substance. Be sure to look for them if that is the case. They have a team prepared to deal with this type of occurrence.

Respect for the nature of the region and local culture

Remember that this space is an environmental reserve and is the home of the local community, one of the few places still untouched in Bahia.

Respect the environment, avoiding throwing trash on the floor and using the available trash bins and bathrooms. Contribute to minimize the impact of an event of this size there.

What to do before and after the Paralello Universe: enjoy the beaches of Bahia

Since you are already going to take a jump in Bahia, how about enjoying the beaches near the Paralello Universe to relax and rest? (Since this is not possible during the festival, is it?)

Many people leave Pratigi and go to other nearby cities, where there is an after event. Look at the top choices of staff.

1. Itacaré

Located about 1h30 from the event, Itacaré is a trendy Bahian village known for its surf beaches and natural beauty. This is where the official UP takes place, about a week after the event.

Therefore, the city is filled with people carrying the pulse of the festival at that time. And to get there it is possible to even combine a taxi / private car of the UP gate. I did that and paid $400 for three passengers. Learn more about Itacaré here.

If you don’t have much time, you can hire an excursion to get to know this paradise of Bahia better. They cost from R$ 80.

Find hosting in Itacaré.

2. 2. Boipeba and a boipeba

To get there is more difficult, but Boipeba makes a disputed: this paradisiacal island is famous for its stunning beaches, native vegetation and a quiet environment, being a perfect destination for those seeking to escape the bustle of the big cities and enjoy a relaxing and relaxed atmosphere.

Unlike In Itacaré, Boipeba will please those who really want quiet after festival. And you can still take a jump in Morro de São Paulo and Moreré. Learn more about Boipeba.

To get there, you will have to go from Pratigi to Valença and from there finish the boat trip. The most famous activity in the region is the Volta à Ilha, which gives you a taste of everything there is in a day trip.

Find hosting in Boipeba.

3. Caraíva

A small village by the sea, Caraíva enchants with its sand streets and colorful houses. Take the opportunity to know Caraíva Beach and Satu Beach, as well as boat trips along the Caraíva River.

Accessible only by boat, Caraíva attracts visitors in search of a refuge to relax and disconnect from the busy life of the cities. Find hotels in Caraíva.

To get there, you will need to go to Porto Seguro. Then it is best to hire a transfer that takes you to the hotel in Caraíva. Leaves for about $160 per person.

Taking advantage of the beaches and attractions of Bahia before and after the Paralello Universe is a great way to end your trip!
