Chef Renzo Garibaldi’s favorites, from OSSO, in São Paulo

South America

Our guest this week in the “Chef’s Favorites” column is the award-winning Renzo Garibaldi, Peruvian chef and butcher at the helm of Osso, in Lima, in 38th position on the list of the 50 best restaurants in Latin America, and also with three restaurants in São Paulo: the Osso branch, the meat branch, Cór, where he is a partner and consulting chef, and the most recent of them, Incêndio. In the USA, anyone in Miami can go to the new Julia&Henry’s gastronomic market, where there is a popular OSSO. Therefore, since the capital of São Paulo is practically your second home, let’s find out what your favorite places are, whether to have a nice breakfast/brunch, have a date or enjoy the happy hour with friends.

About the chef

International reference in meat dry aged and preparations with fire, Renzo graduated in California, and began his journey in the world of meat in 2010. It was on a trip to San Francisco, in the United States, that he discovered the world of sustainable butchery and participated in a class with the maestro butcher Ryan Farr. Charismatic, he frequently clocks in in São Paulo, where he manages his restaurants, and occasionally hosts gastronomic events with guest chefs. Recently, in fact, he was in Rio to participate in a six-party dinner at Clan BBQ, in celebration of the 1st year of the award-winning meat restaurant in Leblon. Finally, this Tuesday, August 8th, the chef will be back in Rio de Janeiro for dinner at the Fairmont Copacabana, with French chef Jérôme Dardillac, already warming up for Rio Gastronomia, which starts this Thursday, 10th day.

Best place to date in SP: Gero

The best place for a date in São Paulo is certainly Gero, located in the new and spectacular Fasano Itaim! In addition to the good food, it also has an intimate atmosphere to create an atmosphere.

Best place for Sunday lunch with the family: Cór

For a Sunday lunch, the best option is certainly Cór. The environment is so pleasant, open, wooded and with lots of greenery! In other words, it doesn’t even feel like we’re in São Paulo.

Best place for happy hour in SP: Bar Espírito Santo

Bar Espírito Santo, in Itaim Bibi, which is close to Parque do Povo. At the Portuguese bar, I like to order a Fitzgerald, a drink that contains gin, lemon, Angostura bitters and sugar syrup. Certainly an excellent choice!

Best place to have breakfast: Tangará Palace

Palácio Tangará, a luxury hotel in São Paulo, from the Oetker Collection label, has a super special breakfast, and on Sundays there is also brunch, which takes place on the terrace of Pateo do Palácio, amidst the greenery and overlooking the Park Burle Marx.

Palácio Tangará, indeed a great brunch tip in SP

Best place to enjoy the view of SP: Seen

I really like Seen, the bar and restaurant at Tivoli Mofarrej, close to Avenida Paulista. On the 23rd floor, it certainly has one of the most beautiful views of the city. You can choose to sit at the bar, at one of the restaurant tables, or on the 65 m² velvet sofa.
