On my last trip to the capital of São Paulo, I went to Carlota, a classic Brazilian bistro in São Paulo. Opened 27 years ago by chef Carla Pernambuco, in Higienópolis, the restaurant has new features, such as, for example, a line of fresh pasta and recipes that have become customer favorites. In fact, Carlota knew how to update itself over the years! It remains a charm and a favorite for those who enjoy good Brazilian cuisine. Brazilian bistro in São Paulo
In a friendly white brick townhouse, I had the honor of being welcomed by chef Carla Pernambuco herself. Known for its comfort food, that is, that food that embraces, she bets on an affectionate and multicultural cuisine. The atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming and very well lit. The wooden tables have flower arrangements and the service is very friendly. Furthermore, the paintings were handpicked by the chef herself.

Among the new features, in addition to fresh pasta, there are also sauces made in-house. Both are for sale at the restaurant counter, by weight and to go. Or, available at Carlota Very Deli, delivery service.
Carlota restaurant’s menu changes weekly. However, there are always the recipes that marked the era and became icons during these 27 years of the house’s life. We started our lunch with the renowned Vietnamese Rolls, with steamed shrimp, harusame, salad and citrus sauce. Next, I went for the Seafood Plancha and also tried the Sole with plantain puree and peach palm.

Among other suggestions, for example, the classic Filet Wellington with poivre sauce and risotto with curd cheese and arugula stand out. The Moqueca da Sereia, with fish, shrimp, coconut flakes, cashew, star fruit, amoquecado sauce, rice and farofa, recently entered the menu.
Meanwhile, to sweeten the palate, the dulce de leche creme brûlée was perfect! Surely the guava soufflé with catupiry syrup could not be missed, served only in person, and prohibited from being off the menu (by customers, lol).
Harmonized Lunch
By coincidence, a few days later I returned to Carlota for a harmonized lunch at the invitation of Grand Cru. Chef Carla Pernambuco created a special menu that paired very well with the three wines from Quinta do Vallado, in the Douro. In addition, we also tasted Port wine that accompanied the cheese dish, green apples and grapes. In fact, it was a very pleasant afternoon, with the presence of the CEO of the Portuguese family brand, João Ribeiro.
