Candied Orange Peel – Panelaterapia

Candied Orange Peel

Sweet cakes and pies

I had already seen some tutorials on how to make this cone and I thought it was a bit complicated, but my mother saved me with this super easy recipe!!!
This cone is a luxury, friends, it is used to decorate sweets (cakes, puddings, etc.), to serve with tea or coffee or to snack on all day long every time you pass by it.

First, it is important to choose an orange that has a beautiful skin, with a very bright color and no black marks. Then you peel it trying not to remove the white part, because it is bitter. Try to peel it as thinly as possible.

Once this is done, you slice them into sticks, in fact, the size and shape don’t matter much. Bring the cones to a boil covered with water. Once it boils, leave it on the heat for 30 seconds, remove it, discard the water, add clean water and repeat the process. Do this 3 times (with 3 waters).

Dry the cones with paper towel and heat with sugar (3 tablespoons for each orange used). Stir continuously until the sugar foams. After it starts to foam, stir for another 30 seconds.

No The sugar is supposed to brown like caramel, see? With the sugar still white and sparkling, you pour the mixture off the heat into a baking dish and stir with a spoon. The cones dry out and fall off. Don’t worry, nothing will stick to the pan.

Once cool, store in a closed container. Beautiful thing, right?
