Calamus is a medicinal plant, also known as aromatic calamus or scented cane, which is widely used for digestive problems, such as indigestion, lack of appetite or belching. Furthermore, it can often be used as an aromatic plant.

Its scientific name is Acorus pen L. and has thin, sharp leaves that can reach 1 meter, as well as a spike full of small greenish-yellow flowers. Calamus can be purchased at health food stores.

How to use calamus

The parts of calamus used are the root and leaves to make teas, tinctures, infusions and baths.

  • Calamus decoction for skin problems: Boil 50 g of crushed root together with 500 ml of water for 10 minutes. Add the mixture to bath water and soak for 20 minutes before bed.
