Bef Stroganov – Russian Stroganoff

Meat

I saw a similar recipe on TV and wanted to try it. At the time I didn’t write down the ingredients and then I searched the internet and found “zillions” of versions of Russian Stroganoff, several of them even calling themselves “original” or “traditional”. As I don’t know Russia, I’ve never tried this dish locally, I made my version and it was delicious!
I even think this version is easier to make than the traditional one. Do you want to write it down?

Ingredients:
1/2 Onion;
400g Filet Mignon seasoned with salt, olive oil and black pepper;
1 col. (tea) full Russian Mustard;
1 col. (tea) smoked paprika;
180 ml Fresh cream.

Before starting, it’s worth saying that I used a Russian mustard that Pitada Natural sent me. It is a very strong mustard so if you want, you can replace it with a strong or dark mustard that you can find in most supermarkets, usually called “Extra Strong”.

Sauté the onion with a little olive oil. Add the meat (ideally the meat should have been seasoned for at least 2 hours). Sauté until golden. Add the mustard, paprika and cream. Let it thicken. Adjust the salt and add black pepper if you want.

Several of the versions of this dish that I researched said that the Russians served this Stroganoff with roast potatoes and cucumber pickles, so I followed the instructions and found it delicious!
