Where to stay in Shanghai – Location

The hotel, the first Andaz from Asia, is located in a charming neighborhood, which is Xintiandi, famous for its entertainment options, restaurants, shops, both on the street and shopping centers. A really exemplary location, one of those where you can walk and do a lot of things without needing any transport.

I loved this neighborhood!

I thought the neighborhood was super cute, one that makes you want to live. No wonder, one of the neighborhoods chosen by expatriates to live. It can be seen that it is really international. A homogeneous and ordered architecture, with graceful houses, that even reminded me of London at times. And this is the face of Shanghai – a city full of contrasts, where modernity and tradition collide without realizing it.

Andaz brand

All the Andaz hotels has a strong relationship with the neighborhood where they are located. The idea is that the hotel is very well inserted into the context, has cultural and gastronomic terms. Furthermore, they are modern hotels with a youthful style, where the service will always be more informal – but very friendly – than in other luxury brands in the region. ready Hyatt.

Right at the entrance we notice the informality in which we are received, as the reception is open and not those traditional counters with a wall behind. And the entire staff is always very friendly and smiling.

The rooms

The decor of the rooms, as well as the entire hotel, is very modern. My room had wooden floors, a comfortable king size bed and a colorful panel behind that gave life to the room. I thought the tea set on the tray in every room was really nice.

I was also treated to a plate of fruit and a bottle of wine, always a nice gesture from the hotel. The architect knew how to be bold in the bathroom, where the shower had a stone wall and the sink and bathtub had phosphorescent pink lights. It may seem strange, but I thought it was an interesting touch. The amenities products were of excellent quality.

Bars and restaurants

The hotel has five bars and restaurants in total. The main one, Hai Pai, mixes local cuisine with contemporary flavors. I thought the menu in iPad format was really cool. There is the Japanese restaurant 88 Sushi, which always serves very fresh fish. The Xuan bar, on the mezzanine, where there is a daily happy hour from 5 pm to 9 pm. And the Andaz Lounge is right in the middle of the lobby and is also a lively place for a coffee or a drink at any time of the day. Eclair – as the name suggests – is a patisseriea candy store.

The service

As I already mentioned, I was treated very well by everyone and I could see how attentive the staff were to the guests. In an exotic country like China, this makes all the difference for us Westerners. After all, we don’t speak the language and the customs are very different. The concierges were well prepared and helped a lot. They recommended the night boat trip to me – one of the coolest things to do in Shanghai – and I was even able to buy tickets there. I found it super practical.
