Alec Baldwin is sued along with other production employees for the film Rust by the head of the production’s electrical department.
Alec Baldwin, the actor responsible for firing the shot that killed Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust, is being sued by the head of the film’s electrical department. Likewise, other production employees became targets of Serge Svetnoy’s lawsuit. Alec Baldwin is being sued along with assistant director Dave Halls and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, and everyone will face legal action. The case initially appeared in a TMZ publication last Wednesday (10).
According to electrician Serge Svetnoy, the shot fired by Baldwin caused him severe emotional distress following the tragedy. Furthermore, Svetnoy further declares that the accident was negligence on the part of the actor. Documents obtained by the website reveal that the bullet that hit Hutchins and director Joel Souza also almost hit him. Serge was one of the first people to help the director of photography. The professional had known her for 5 years and considered her a good friend. In this sense, he still asks for compensation and a jury trial.
In the suit, Svetnoy alleges that Alec Baldwin had a duty to handle with care the revolver provided to him by Dave Halls. That way, the crew and cast would be safe. “This duty required defendant Baldwin to double check the revolver with Halls to ensure it did not contain live ammunition,” the document says. “This duty also required Baldwin to handle the revolver as if it were loaded, avoiding pointing it at anyone.”
Still on the process, the scene that Baldwin was rehearsing at the time of the shooting required him to draw the gun and point it towards the camera. However, she did not demand that he pull the trigger.

The court document also claims that Alec Baldwin was negligent as a producer on the film Rust. In this sense, it is believed that they tried to save money by hiring an insufficient number of employees to handle firearms. Likewise, there were other problems on set, such as violations of industry norms. This includes refusing requests for weapons training days, failing to give permission for adequate shooting time and failing to send safety bulletins.
The text also comments that target practice, something that occurred shortly before the tragedy that killed Halyna Hutchins, was an “outrageous” case.
