Adlon Kempinksi: the best hotel in Berlin

News

City with several facets, where the contemporary and the ancient collide at every corner, Berlin offers a hotel chain that matches its vibrancy and sophistication. Traditional properties contrast with modern ones, both inside and out. Past and present coexist harmoniously. On my second visit to the city, I had the chance to stay at the classic Adlon Kempinksi, the best hotel in Berlin, from Leading Hotels of the World. The rooms are spacious, the restaurants excellent, the service impeccable and the location extraordinary.

Adlon Kempinksi: the best hotel in Berlin

History

The imposing Adlon is one of those hotels that certainly blends in with the history of the German capital. Soon after it was opened in 1907, it became one of the most famous hotels in Europe. At this time, therefore, all the nobility who passed through Berlin stayed there. Later, it also welcomed great artists from the beginning of the 20th century, such as Charles Chaplin and Marlene Dietrich, as well as the cream of German intellectuals. It was destroyed in World War II and only rebuilt in 1997. Since then, heads of state, such as the Queen of England, Elizabeth II, celebrities, such as the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and several Hollywood celebrities, such as Julienne Moore , stayed there.

Location

The best hotel in Berlin has a sublime location! It is located on Pariser Platz, in front of the Brandenburg Gate, where tourists stop by 24 hours a day. It is still a few steps away from the touching Memorial to the Jews killed in World War II. It is neighboring several embassies and the Academy of Arts. Furthermore, there is a metro station right in front of the hotel, as well as a taxi rank.

The style

Staying in the best hotel in Berlin is like going back in time a little. After all, there is a certain air of nostalgia for old Europe in the air. All environments are grand and you can see that the finishing in all areas is first class. But don’t think the place is “old”. Quite the opposite. Adlon manages to maintain its historical glamor and adapt to new times.

The lobby renovation in 2017 cost 6 million euros. The fully crafted dome, the Murano chandeliers and the central elephant-shaped fountain certainly add grandeur to the busy environment. With a bar in the center, it is ideal not only for drinks but also for having a coffee or cappuccino, which, in fact, has the grandiose gate printed on the foam, therefore giving the drink a sweeter taste.

With 382 rooms, 78 of which are suites, they are divided into five categories. They are all very comfortable, with classic decor, but equipped for the modernity of the times we live in. The executive room, for example, is around 35m².

A beautiful reception!

I was impressed by the total silence of the room, with very efficient double-glazed windows. O black out it also worked very well. The suite had two rooms: a living room, with a table, sofas and armchairs, and the bedroom itself. The bed king size It was very comfortable and on the bedside table, there were the necessary sockets and USB ports that we so desired.

The bathroom, all in marble, with two complete sinks, very comfortable for a couple. In addition, it had a shower and bathtub. In other words, an impeccable suite.

The restaurants

The best hotel in Berlin has three great restaurants and several bars. Quarrê is a mix of French and German, where I was able to try typical dishes and is always open for lunch. Sra Bua is an elegant Asian with European influences. And last but not least, the Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer, commanded by Hendrik Otto, which has two Michelin stars. The haute cuisine menu focuses on European cuisine. Unfortunately the last two were closed on Sunday and Monday and I couldn’t go.

The spa

Of course, being the best hotel in Berlin, there would have to be a spa to match. It has a heated pool, gym, beauty salon and offers various types of treatments. From facial massages, meditation, to yoga classes, it is therefore possible to do different activities there.

The service

Adlon’s service is very attentive, with employees always trying to help and resolve last-minute problems. Kudos to the concierge team, who gave me extremely relevant suggestions for restaurants, museums and tours. And to top it off, he even saved me on the way out by getting a last-minute private car to take me to the airport, on a day of a surprise taxi and Uber strike.

As guest relations always blonde and red – known as ladies in red – they also attract attention due to their friendliness and beauty. I’m sorry hypesbut next time, I won’t go back to Berlin, I’ll go back to Adlon, a classic that won’t go out of style.
