Duchess Meghan Markle finally won a legal dispute against a tabloid that published a personal letter to her father.
One of the biggest controversies of British royalty reached a new result during the last month. In this sense, after a fight that has lasted since 2018, Meghan Markle finally wins a legal dispute against the British tabloids that follow court life in the United Kingdom. The Duchess accuses the newspaper of illegally publishing a letter from her to her father, Thomas Markle, in August 2018. Thus, the Court of Appeal denied the tabloids’ appeal. Meghan will receive compensation for the case.
In any case, the company responsible for the portals is still considering appealing to the Supreme Court, but this is still uncertain. In this sense, Meghan Markle said, in a statement, that her victory should serve as an inspiration for all people who feel intimidated or wronged, no matter what way.
Likewise, the Duchess also talks about how the decision not only affects her, but also anyone who has ever felt afraid to stand up for what is right. Therefore, she considers that this type of attitude also needs to come from other people. The fact that they feel some type of insecurity in the legal system or its bureaucracy should not stop them. Finally, she reinforces her influential position as royalty in the public.
Meghan Markle wins legal dispute
When Meghan Markle won the legal dispute, in the Court’s decision, it was analyzed that the reality was that the Duchess expected and deserved privacy with her letter. Furthermore, they also reinforced that the content of the letter did not contain any type of information that would count as public interest.
The judiciary further states: “These contents were personal, private and not matters of legitimate public interest. The articles in the Mail on Sunday interfered with the duchess’s reasonable expectation of privacy. They were not a justified or proportionate means of correcting inaccuracies about correspondence.”
