The Age of Aquarius is part of the astronomical and astrological concept called “cosmic ages”. In this way, they are defined based on two movements of the Earth and their relationship with the zodiacal constellations. The first is the precession of the equinoxes and the second is the variation in the obliquity of the earth’s axis.
The celestial pole, which is the imaginary extension of the terrestrial pole, makes a circular movement, from east to west and takes 25,794 years to return to the starting point. Thus, as the movement occurs, there is a displacement in relation to the constellation that marks the spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere.
So, the movement that causes this change in the planet’s axis orientation is what we call the precession of the equinoxes. Therefore, due to this movement there is a variation in the obliquity of this axis. Thus, the point at which the celestial Equator touches the ecliptic line, also called the Vernal Point, runs through all the zodiacal constellations during this period. Thus, the 25,794 years divided into 12 signs of the zodiac would give 2,149 years for each astrological era.
In the 1960s, a belief gained strength saying that a “new era” that was about to arrive would mark a new phase for humanity, the so-called Age of Aquarius. But after all, when does this new era begin?
Beginning of the Age of Aquarius
When the Age of Aquarius begins is one of the biggest dilemmas on the subject, since there is no consensus among scholars. Even though there are mathematical calculations that underlie the cosmic eras, there is no precision about the beginning and end of each of them. Therefore, the exact start dates of each cosmic era vary greatly depending on the line of thought.
So, for some the new evolutionary era has already begun, while others are still waiting. For astronomers, the Aquarian Era will only begin in the year 2600. On the other hand, astrologers believe that we are already living through it, and that it began in January 2001, at the beginning of the third millennium.
Thus, this lack of consensus causes people to experience different feelings. In other words, while some are already ahead, others are far behind. Consequently, many are already living the consciousness of this new era, despite still practicing the values of the old world. But according to astrology, this is completely normal.
Influence of the Aquarius sign
Therefore, for those who believe in astrology, and its influence on human life, we are living in the Age of Aquarius. And it is not difficult to notice some aspects specific to this sign in our current moment. For example, communication has never been so advanced, now we have the internet and satellites. Also a quest to evolve, which resulted in technological advancement. And last but not least, opposition to authoritarianism and the fight for individual freedom.
Thus, the main promise for this area is technology, which in turn can make us break away from our instinctive side once and for all. Which, depending on your point of view, can make things much more logical and cold. But on the other hand, it can be improved to the point of solving all the problems created with it so far.
However, Aquarian characteristics can either cause people to abandon old harmful behaviors or bring unrest, alienation and rebellion. Some of the factors already present at the current moment. But looking more at a more individual side, the Aquarian era can be marked by the transformation of man through being. Looking deeply into your own truth and essence, because this is the age of being. So, it will be the feelings and emotions that make people question why they are doing the things they are doing.
Therefore, the Age of Aquarius will mark a great revolution, a great change in relation to other ages. Which makes a lot of sense, considering that this is something notable about the Aquarius symbol. While intellectuals hope for a cold, rational era, mystics believe in positive, loving change.
Next Age and Past Ages
The movement of the Vernal Point is inverse to the detachment of the Earth in relation to the constellations. This means that the order of the cosmic eras is opposite to that of the signs. Therefore, in 2 thousand years humanity will enter the Age of Capricorn. And everything points to it being completely different from the Age of Aquarius. The forecast is for a time focused on the origin of humanity, one of the main characteristics of the Capricorn sign.
