Bacalhoada is a typical Portuguese dish, and is also one of the traditions of Holy Week. Portuguese-style cod is a different dish, very tasty and also a practical recipe to make.

How to make Bacalhau the Portuguese way

Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg of cod (desalted and in medium pieces)
  • 1 kg of potatoes cut in half
  • 5 medium onions cut in half
  • 1 green, red and yellow pepper cut into strips
  • 6 skinless tomatoes, cut in half
  • 200 g large black olives
  • Chopped green flavor to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil (Portuguese) to taste

Preparation mode

  1. Firstly, to make Bacalhau the Portuguese way, you need to desalt the cod.
  2. Then cut into medium pieces and place in a pan of water and bring to a boil. So, reserve the water and start assembling the dish.
  3. In short, make layers starting with a layer of potatoes. Then, add the cod, peppers, tomatoes, onions and olives.
  4. Finally, sprinkle green scent and drizzle with olive oil as desired, approximately 500 ml. Add 2 cups of the water that was used to boil the cod.
  5. Then, bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes and onions soften.
