Model Yasmin Castrillon, who is considered the true “Fitness Indian” for being born in Manaus and being the great-granddaughter of an Indian from the Parintintins tribe, details what food is like in the Amazon and her local preferences.
“Among the typical foods from my region that I like most are fish. Tambaqui, pirarucu and matrinchã are delicious, my favorite dishes.”
“Among the roots, my favorite is the Amazon nut. It is known as Brazil nut in the rest of Brazil, but it is not from Pará, but from the Amazon. It’s a typical seed from the region”, says the brunette.

According to Yasmin Castrillon, contrary to what many people think, food in Manaus is not very different from the rest of the country.
“The rest of the food is not that different from what we find in other cities in Brazil. In Manaus I eat a lot of brown rice, sweet potatoes, cassava, which in other places is called cassava or cassava, and tapioca starch. These are considered the best carbohydrates for gaining lean mass.”

“I really like this fruit called cupuaçu. It has a very strong flavor, very different from anything else. It is a relative of cocoa and is used to make cupulate, a product that has a flavor similar to chocolate.”
The brunette admits that from time to time she eats typical, high-calorie foods from the Amazon region.
“I actually can’t, but every now and then I can’t resist the super typical and high-calorie foods from Amazonas like duck in tucupi, French bread with tucumã, coalho cheese and the famous ‘X-Caboquinho’ (laughs). The nutritious snack is made on a bread stuffed with tucumã, fried banana and coalho cheese”.
“Amazonians, like any Brazilian, also end up eating a lot of fried foods, sweets, flour, soft drinks… I can’t even think about avoiding the diet (laughs)”, says Yasmin.
