Check the space where you plan to bathe your baby
For your baby’s bath to be a pleasant moment for him and for you, it is essential that the location is appropriate, with space for you to move around in a safe and practical way.
Close doors and windows and prioritize the hottest times.
Set up the space, with the bathtub on top of the support, and keep everything you might need nearby:
- diapers;
- towel;
- exchanger;
- clothes;
- diaper rash cream;
- soap;
- shampoo;
- cotton swab;
- gaze;
- adhesive tape and 70% alcohol, if it is a newborn and the umbilical stump has not yet fallen off.
With everything at hand, bathing becomes a much quicker activity, preventing the baby from being exposed to drafts and getting hiccups, while you are left looking for something you forgot.

Observation:
Never, under any circumstances, leave your baby alone in or near the bathtub.
Bathtub care
The bathtub needs to be at the height of the mother or father and, therefore, it must be securely attached to a support.
It is also recommended that the bathtub has some creases so that the baby does not slip during the bath.
Before filling the bathtub, sanitize its interior with clean water and alcohol.
Pour water into the bathtub, without filling it too much.
Enough to bathe the baby, being able to leave him well inclined to wash his hair without danger (about 2/3 of the bathtub space).
The ideal temperature for bathing your baby is 36°C.
You can check whether the water is too hot or cold by placing your forearm in the water.
If it is warm, it will be suitable for bathing the baby.

Baby bath products
The most basic products for baby bathing are shampoo and soap.
Both need to be neutral and anti-tears, so as not to irritate the child’s eyes or cause allergies on their delicate skin.
Ideally, all products should be suitable for babies and labeled as “dermatologically tested” on the packaging.

The bath
Place the baby sitting in the bathtub, supporting his back and head well, start by cleaning his face with a very soft cloth, dampened in the bathwater.
Then, wash the baby’s head and hair, tilting the baby a little more in the bathtub, being careful not to get water into their ears.
Wash the baby’s body from the front, applying soap to the belly, chest and legs, including the folds.
Turn it over, holding it by the chest and supporting it by the armpits to wash your back, neck and butt.
Leave the genitals for last.
Take the baby out of the bathtub and immediately wrap him in the towel.
Once it is warm, apply the products of your choice and then put on your clothes.
