Ylang ylang, also known as Cananga odorata, is a tree from which its yellow flowers are collected, from which the essential oil is obtained, and which are used to formulate perfumes and cosmetics.

This oil has antiseptic, hypotensive, antispasmodic, antidepressant, aphrodisiac and sedative properties, which give it several benefits. Ylang ylang can be used in different ways, such as in a massage, in a bath or through a diffuser, for example.

What are the benefits

Ylang ylang is widely used to help treat depression and has calming properties that help relieve stress, nervous and muscular tension and calm palpitations, thus promoting relaxation and increasing mood. Additionally, this essential oil can also be used to help treat high blood pressure and hyperventilation.

Ylang ylang essential oil is also widely used in perfumes and cosmetic products for skin, hair and scalp care. It is also effective in treating acne and blemishes, as it stimulates cell renewal.

How to use

Ylang ylang is widely used in aromatherapy and can be done during a massage, mixing the massage oil with a few drops of essential oil or in the bath, diluting around 6 drops of Ylang ylang oil in another vegetable oil, such as almonds for example and then enter the bath water and relax for around 30 minutes.

Furthermore, it can also be used in a diffuser, in perfumes and cosmetics or through inhalation by placing around 5 drops of the oil in a bowl of hot water and then placing a towel over your head and inhaling the steam for a few minutes.

Possible side effects

Generally this oil is well tolerated, however if used in excess it can cause nausea and headache.
