How to decorate a 25m² apartment?

The clients wanted a contemporary environment, with well-defined functions, multifunctional furniture and full of personality. It should be inviting to receive visitors and, above all, it should accommodate the couple’s extensive collection of almost a thousand books.

The property was delivered by the construction company and, in the kitchen layout study, the architect identified that the initial position of the refrigerator could interfere with the flow of the apartment. So, to optimize space, she decided to reverse the position of the refrigerator and the oven.

With the aim of creating a vibrant atmosphere, the choice was the shade of green Alecrim Matt, from Guararapes, for the joinery, and the Confete White porcelain countertop, from Ceusa. The lighting was designed with a track of three spots and an LED embedded in the joinery, in order to highlight the bench in an elegant way.

The other colors in the palette revolve around this green, including the terracotta used on the access doors to the intimate area, which gained a exclusive handmade drawing by artist and muralist Larissa Marchizelli. Furthermore, the kitchen front received the Color Mind White ceramic brick, from Decortiles. For the overhead cabinets, the proposal included loose shelves and sliding doors in ribbed glass.

In the living room/home theater, half of the wall was painted in the shade Brisa do Mar, by Suvinil, while the other half was covered in white bricks.

The German corner sofa, custom-made for the space, was a specific request from the clients and a great challenge for the architect. So, she designed it to start in front of the kitchen peninsula and continue in an L-shape through the living room. Its joinery structure houses an integrated trunk, which optimizes its functionality. Likewise, the flooring throughout the social area is Sofisticado Nogueira vinyl, by Ruffino, which adds elegance and practicality.

Bookshelf is the highlight of the project

Since the clients needed a large bookshelf, the solution was to create a structure that avoided the excessive use of metalwork, to give a feeling of lightness to the 25 m² apartment and allowing the books to appear to float on the shelves. In order to guarantee stability, a tensioned cable fixed to the slab was used, in addition to the invisible plaster that had already been placed as the base structure.

Lighting was also a challenge due to the size of the area, as one environment directly interferes with the other. Therefore, independent light points were installed, including a central ceiling light for the room and three directional spots to create indirect lighting.

In the couple’s bedroom, the highlight is undoubtedly the closets with sliding doors covered in straw. Furthermore, the headboard of the bed and the home office table are made of woodwork with a freijó finish. The lighting consisted of a central ceiling light, two spotlights directed towards the home office bench and an LED to create indirect lighting at the headboard.
