New York's cool and modern park

North America

O High Linelinear park New Yorkis one of those projects that residents of São Paulo always dreamed of doing Minhocão.

HIGH LINE EM NOVA YORK

HISTORY

For almost 50 years, the High Line was used to transport goods. Until in 1980, with the advancement of highways, the last train left there, curiously full of frozen turkeys, according to the association website Friends of The High Line. At this time, some people wanted the railway line to be demolished, but an activist went to court to stop it.

In 1999, some residents of the region founded the group “Amigos do High Line”who wanted the area to be revitalized and used as a public space.

Until in 2002, a study revealed that the project was economically viable and a competition for ideas and suggestions for what to do with the place. In 2004, the teams that would put the project into practice were selected.

The following year, the High Line property was donated by CSX Transportation to the City of New York and in 2009 the first part of the park was opened to the public.

THE PARK

The High Line, which is 8 meters high, has a beautiful garden, as well as benches and walkways and practically serves as an open-air museum, as at each step a new work appears among New York’s buildings. In fact, the Brazilian graffiti Cobra It is one of the highlights of the region.
