Cenotes and zipline in Campeche, Mexico

North America

Miguel Colorado is about 130km from Campechecapital of the state of the same name in Mexico. Due to receiving daily flights from Mexico Citythis is the main gateway to the region’s attractions.

We took a morning to visit the cenotes of Miguel Coloradoo, a small village that hides many surprises. For those who don’t know, cenote is a term of Mayan origin that means a natural cavity in which groundwater can be accessed, that is, they are lagoons that provide access to groundwater.

Despite being open recently and managed by local residents, the park has a good structure, with bathrooms e parking. They are two types of packages for visitors: a cheaper one to visit, swim and kayak in the cenotes and another that includes the same as the previous one plus zip lines. Foreigners pay a little more (see prices and details at the end of the post).

There are two cenotes in Miguel Colorado: the Blue waterwhich is the most visited, is the The Duckswhich requires a little more walking.

We start with ziplines. There are four that cross the Agua Azul cenote with a height that reaches up to 100m over the lake.

The longest is around 300m. It’s pure adrenaline and butterflies in your stomach. A delight!

After the adventure, the cenote itself is an invitation to alleviate the heat of this region, which easily exceeds 40 degrees. It is possible to swim in the clear waters and greenish in tone (despite the name “blue”). As there are changing rooms in the bathrooms, it is worth bringing a towel and bathing suit.

On the floating pier, visitors can use the kayaks for a tour of the cenote. There is no time limit and guides help with life jackets and instructions.

Visiting the cenotes of Miguel Colorado was a good surprise, as I didn’t know this Mexican region. Great for enjoying an afternoon or morning with family or friends. Unfortunately, due to the weather, we were unable to go to the Los Patos cenote, but I would have liked to have gone. It is about a 20-minute walk along the trail from Agua Azul.
