new York It is a vibrant city that is always full of new things. After the success of Eataly, gastronomic market Italian, also present in other countries and with a branch in São Paulo, it’s time for French food to have its own place.
The District It is the most new NY gourmet market, opened a few months ago, in Lower Manhattan.
The place is charming and cozy – much smaller than Eataly, by the way – and a mix of a delicatessen, supermarket and several food stations. Sweet shop, bakery, creperie, cheese shops, cold cuts, wine bar… All French specialties are served there.
The market is divided into 4 “districts”: Market, Garden, Café and Restaurant. At the Market, you will find different places to eat sandwiches, soups, salads, oysters, champagne, cheeses, burgers, fish and seafood, meats and a super charming flower shop.
I ate there alone, sitting quietly at the counter and ordered a steak tartare and a glass of wine. It was wonderful!
In the Garden, there are fresh products and delicacies from France, such as cheeses, cold cuts, etc. Ideal to buy and take home or to the hotel and have a snack later.
The Cafe is that temptation and where the patisserie French, that is, something that the French know how to do very well: sweets. Macarons, cookies, cakes, all the French delicacies are there.
O gourmet market It faces Battery Park – with outdoor tables – and from where you can even see the Statue of Liberty on the banks of the Hudson River. In other words, it’s a complete tour! It’s worth arriving a little early and taking a walk around the area. There’s even a Century 21 nearby (a wonderful, giant discount store)!
