Delicious Mediterranean restaurant overlooking Guanabara Bay
Designed by Mario Bueno, the architecture shows a composition of typically Mediterranean materials, like a portrait of a beach in a refined environment. Baleia, in fact, has everything related to the sea with blue details and sand-colored floors, which brings more clarity to the environment. Certainly, these questions make us feel like we are in a luxury kiosk by the sea. Furthermore, in the external area, the architect opted for furniture with nautical ropes, umbrellas with solar barriers and charming light poles.

The surprise in the main dish
For the main dish, chef Bruno Barros prepared a surprise for the guests. We started with a delicious plantain gnocchi (R$ 92) and then tried a beautiful red crustato fish – which was the catch of the day – (R$ 220 per kg), baked in a coarse salt crust, accompanied by creamy endive and seasoned potatoes. The fish was covered in salt, but (surprisingly!) it was salted just right.

In fact, all these dishes were accompanied by excellent signature drinks. In the middle of summer, we decided to order refreshing drinks, such as the Varadero (R$39), with sake, cranberry, raspberry, mint, lemon and ginger foam and the Azul da Cor do Mar (R$42), with vodka, lychee, pineapple, coconut water, ginger, blue curaçao and lemon.

To close enjoy dinner at this Mediterranean restaurant with a flourish
For dessert, we ordered the wonderful apple pie with vanilla ice cream (R$44). However, a highlight is also the Bailey’s Crumble (R$46), a chocolate mousse, vanilla cream with Baileys, macadamia ice cream and white chocolate crunch. Delicious and very well presented sweets!

Whale at Faria Lima, in São Paulo
In fact, our editor-in-chief Renata Araújo has already been to the trendy Baleia Rooftop, in São Paulo. The restaurant is located on the fourth floor of the B32 building, a multipurpose complex that brings together a super technological theater, corporate tower and restaurants. The building, designed by architect Eji Hayakawa, has already won the title of work of art and, in addition, was voted the most sustainable building in Latin America. Right at the entrance, we came across a metal whale structure six meters high and 20 meters long. With a New York feel, Baleia Rooftop has a Mediterranean inspiration, several environments, elegant decor and a privileged view of the city. In fact, a place you need to visit in São Paulo and, now, in Rio de Janeiro too!
Certainly, Baleia Rio’s brings a touch of innovation to Rio’s gastronomic scene, with the best of Mediterranean cuisine. The Mediterranean restaurant with stunning views turns the establishment into a gastronomic paradise by the sea, with a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. Worth the experience!
