As soon as I arrived at Murakami, an excellent Japanese restaurant in Jardins, I saw my name on a sign at the counter “Renata San” (Mrs Renata), I thought it was a very thoughtful detail and I already imagined that my night would be fabulous! Under the command of award-winning – and irreverent – chef Tsuyoshi Murakami, the restaurant is in the heart of the neighborhood, with a counter for just 12 seats. The feeling it gave me was that I was in Japan in the middle of São Paulo. Therefore, at dinner, only the omakase menu, the Japanese tasting, with five courses and two desserts is served. Remembering that reservations are essential, as there are only two slots per night, and it is important not to be late!

Capital flask shop: new Italian house in our Jardins
In his menu, chef Tsuyoshi Murakami prefers real wasabi, the fresh oriental root, with an exceptionally milder flavor, known scientifically as Eutrema wasabi. Furthermore, the dishes have a flavor that takes us back to Japan and feature quality ingredients, such as Wagyu, which is served with saracen noodles and the chef’s recommendation to eat loudly to feel the true flavor. Next, the corn tempura is unusual and delicious.

Murakami
To my surprise, on my left side, surprisingly, was the dear Janaína Rueda, chef at Casa do Porco, the best restaurant in Latin America. Another important sign that the dinner would be memorable! We exchanged several ideas during the meal and we were both impressed with the omakase menu offered by Murakami. Furthermore, the chef, who works with his wife (responsible for the desserts, while his son manages the administration), calls the menu the “living menu”, which is born and dies every day, that is, there will always be dishes and new ingredients.

To finish, the two dessert stages were surprising, especially the matcha sundae. In addition, there is also a stage with two motchis of the day, which are super tasty.

About the chef
Born in Japan, chef Murakami emigrated to Brazil at the age of 3 and grew up in Rio de Janeiro. He apprenticed as a cook in Tokyo, New York and Barcelona. Furthermore, he married Suzana Kinoshita, responsible for desserts at the Kinoshita restaurant, in Liberdade, where he started. He then held specific events and then opened Murakami.
