Located in the most sophisticated part of the city, in Upper East Side, it is just a few blocks from Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum and next to the Whitney Museum (where a wonderful exhibition by the artist Jeff Koons is on display). In addition to being surrounded by good restaurants and some of the best shops in NY.

Carlyle’s story
The Carlyle: luxury and tradition in NY, opened in the 1930s and remains a reference in the local hotel industry to this day. At the entrance, we come across its elegant lobby, renovated a few years ago, and on the same floor its restaurant, also called The Carlyle, where breakfast is served. and which is also open for lunch and dinner. Both with discreet and tasteful decor, in the English style.
For being a traditional hotel, is one of the few that has elevator operators in its elevators, a rare occurrence in the city. Everyone was very friendly, as was the staff in general, always attentive and willing to help. From the receptionists, to the doormen, and the concierge team, they are very well informed, giving relevant suggestions about the intense schedule in the city and able to resolve last-minute problems. One example was one of my shoes that broke during the trip and they promptly fixed it without me having to worry. In other words, it is the quality service that makes all the difference when we stay in a luxury hotel.

Furthermore, as it is a tradition in NY that has managed to renew itself, The Carlyle is one of the best hotels for people watching, that is, observing the movement of people, in this case, famous people, who are always walking around there. During my week-long stay, I met Tom Hanks at breakfast, bumped into actress Betty Midler in the lobby, and had the chance to watch live, none other than Woody Allen What’s up? Cafe Carlyle, every Monday for fifteen years. The show was packed, but as hotel guests, of course we have preference. It was an incredible night, with the sound of the Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz Band, a well-known musician there. And of course, on the way out, I couldn’t resist and approached my favorite film director to take a photo. He was friendly, but very shy and withdrawn.

Also in a very short season was actor and musician Jeff Goldblum, best known for his performances in In Moscow (1986) , Jurassic Park (1993) and more recently Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). He sings and plays the piano and for the first time they performed in NY. Opened in the 1950s, the traditional Carlyle Cafe It’s intimate, a haunt of well-known musicians and has a 1930s cabaret feel, very friendly. Before watching excellent shows and having a variety of drinks, it is also possible to have dinner, even if it is sitting at the bar. In addition to Cafe Carlyle, the hotel has another bar, with daily shows, the charming Bemelmans, frequented by political actors and socialites from new York. It was named after graphic artist Ludwig Bemelmans, who works for magazines Vogue e The New Yorker, and which also illustrated the walls of the bar, responsible for the movement in the hotel every night, but without disturbing the guests in the slightest. I loved this vibe at The Carlyle, always lively, with people coming and going and with good music playing every night.
The Carlyle Rooms
As with many hotels in NY, the rooms are not very large, but the spectacular view of the city – at any time of the day and night – including Central Park, makes all the difference. I got a super balcony, which could be put to good use, as it wasn’t cold yet, and from where I took wonderful photos. With the curtain open, the view ended up giving the impression of having more space in the room. The treats, frequent in luxury hotelscan also be enjoyed, starting with our initials embroidered on the pillows: more care for the guest, impossible!
On the other hand, I had the chance to visit the Royal Suite, a gigantic one, practically an apartment, where Michael Jackson and Lady Di have stayed, provided for my entrance, live, to Studio i, Globonews program, where I am a travel columnist. I was really drooling over that room.
O Rooftop
Another incredible experience was going to the rooftop of the hotel – something unfortunately forbidden to ordinary guests – but the general manager, a very friendly Italian, married to a Brazilian, took us to enjoy the view even more and take photos. After all, I was there for work, so I had that right. And by the way, it was breathtaking.
In addition to everything already mentioned here, the hotel has a spa, including a beauty salon that offers a variety of treatments and a gym, for the more energetic. In other words, The Carlyle: luxury and tradition in NY is a hotel that knew how to renew itself and stay up to date. Super important these days.
