Jet tanning, also known as spray tanning, is a great option for having naturally tanned skin, without being exposed to the sun, and can be done as many times as the person deems necessary, as it has no contraindications and no risk to the skin. health.
Previously, artificial tanning was done in tanning beds, however, its use was banned by ANVISA in 2009 due to health risks, such as burns, skin aging, vision problems and even increasing the risk of skin cancer. See more about the risks of artificial tanning.
Jet tanning can be done in aesthetic or dermatological clinics, because it is possible to have better control of the level of tan you want to obtain, and it lasts on the skin for up to 10 days, making it important to take some precautions before carrying out the procedure, such as exfoliate your skin, in addition to hydrating your skin and avoiding very hot baths after tanning.

How spray tanning is done
Jet tanning is done by applying a tanning product containing dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which is placed in a container that is coupled to a compressor, spraying the product evenly onto the skin.
Jet tanning time is around 20 minutes for applying the products and 10 minutes for drying the skin.
The effect of the jet tanning product begins approximately 3 hours after application, intensifying over 7 hours, guaranteeing a golden bronze on the skin.
How it works
The spray tanning product has in its composition a substance called dihydroxyacetone, or DHA, which reacts with proteins and amino acids present on the surface of skin cells, leading to the production of a pigment responsible for tanning, melanoidin.
This pigment does not cause damage to the skin, but only changes its color, leaving it more tanned, with a natural appearance.
How to prepare
It is important that before carrying out the procedure, the person takes certain precautions, such as:
- Remove all accessoriessuch as earrings, rings, bracelets, watches, piercings or necklaces, for example.
- Do not apply makeup to the skinoils, moisturizing creams, deodorant or perfume;
- Exfoliate your skin at least 6 hours beforeto remove dead cells present on the skin and, thus, guarantee longer-lasting results;
- Shower with liquid soap neutral pH, before tanning;
- Wear light, loose clothingand sandals on the day of the procedure.
Furthermore, if the person wants to wax or lighten their hair, the recommendation is that this be done at least 48 hours before spray tanning.
Care after application
After applying the spray tanning product, it is important to:
- Don’t put clothes on next 20 minutes, to avoid stains;
- Do not shower for the next 7 hoursas the product continues to act on the skin for around 7 hours and, if it is removed sooner, the effect may not be as expected;
- Avoid physical exercise or activities that increase sweat production, for at least 7 hours after applying the product;
- Avoid rubbing your skin with a towel after bathing or using exfoliants or hair bleaches.as it increases skin peeling, which can cause blemishes;
- Avoid sauna, swimming pool or sea bathingas they can cause stains on the skin or reduce the duration of the bronze;
- Keep your skin always hydratedapplying a moisturizing lotion recommended by the dermatologist or beautician, after spray tanning;
- Avoid taking hot baths and using body oilsas this makes it possible to maintain your tan for longer.
It is also important that the person uses sunscreen, as the pigment produced does not provide protection against the sun’s rays, which can lead to the appearance of spots on the skin, for example.
Disadvantages of spray tanning
Despite being a practical and quick way to have tanned skin, the results of spray tanning are not very long-lasting and can last up to 10 days after application.
Furthermore, the product can stain towels and clothes, even if the product has already dried and the person has followed the recommendations given by the beauty clinic, such as skin hydration, for example.
This makes more spray tanning sessions necessary, which makes the procedure more expensive.
How to tan your skin naturally and for longer
To ensure your skin stays tanned for longer, one option is to use self-tanner at home, as this allows you to control your tan throughout the day and, if the color is fading, you can apply more cream without making it more expensive. the procedure. Learn how to use self-tanner correctly.
Furthermore, to keep your skin tanned, it is recommended to sunbathe using sunscreen, hydrate your skin well, exfoliate regularly and eat foods rich in beta-carotene, such as carrots and beets, for example. See what to do to tan faster.
