Teas to reduce delayed menstruation are those that cause contraction of the uterine muscle and, therefore, stimulate the uterus to desquamate.
Most of the teas used for this purpose do not have scientific evidence in humans, but they are used very frequently in traditional medicine on some continents, especially in South America, Africa and Asia. Furthermore, some plants also have proven results in investigations carried out on rats.
Before drinking any of these types of tea, the woman must take a pregnancy test to make sure she is not pregnant, so as not to harm the baby’s development, as any tea indicated to reduce menstruation can seriously affect the pregnancy.

Ginger tea is considered safe during pregnancy, as long as it is used in low doses of up to 1 gram and for a maximum of 3 to 4 days in a row. In higher doses, this root appears to have the ability to cause the uterus to contract.
Therefore, ginger tea can be used close to the day of menstruation to stimulate uterine bleeding.
Ingredients
2 to 3 cm of fresh ginger root, sliced;
1 cup of boiling water.
Preparation mode
Place the ginger slices in the cup with water and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes. Then strain and drink 2 to 3 times a day.
Ginger slices can be reused to make 2 or 3 cups of tea, and to do this, you can make small cuts in the slices each time you use them, to facilitate the release of more substances.
2. Chá de sene
Senna is a plant with high laxative power, but it also causes the uterus to contract. This happens because it contains substances that stimulate the contraction of smooth muscles, which is the type of muscle present in the intestine, but also in the uterus.
Therefore, in addition to treating constipation, this tea can also be used by women who wish to stimulate menstruation.
Ingredients
2 grams of senna leaves;
1 cup of boiling water.
Preparation mode
Place the senna leaves in a cup of boiling water and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes. Then strain and drink 2 to 3 times a day.
As it is a laxative, it is normal for senna tea to cause diarrhea, especially if the person is not suffering from constipation. Ideally, this tea should not be used for more than 3 days, as it can cause a lot of abdominal discomfort, in addition to contributing to the loss of water and minerals through diarrhea.
3. Cold radish leaf tea
Studies carried out with radish indicate that cold leaf tea has a stimulating effect on the uterus, facilitating menstruation. This effect appears to be related to the presence of saponins and alkaloids that cause the smooth muscles of the stomach, intestine and uterus to contract.
Ingredients
5 to 6 radish leaves;
150 ml of water
Preparation mode
Place the radish leaves and water in a blender. Then beat well until you have a homogeneous mixture and filter with a strainer. Drink 2 to 3 glasses a day.
Radish leaves are safe for health and very nutritious, containing large amounts of vitamin C and other antioxidants that help keep the body healthy.
4. Oregano tea
Oregano is an aromatic herb that is used in some cultures to increase blood circulation in the uterus and stimulate uterine contraction, and is used in the final stages of pregnancy to facilitate labor. However, due to its properties, oregano may also be able to stimulate menstruation.
Ingredients
1 tablespoon of oregano;
1 cup of boiling water.
Preparation mode
Pour 1 cup of boiling water over the oregano leaves for 5 minutes. Then, let it cool, strain and drink 2 to 3 times a day.
Who shouldn’t drink these teas
Teas to help reduce menstruation cause changes in uterine blood flow or in the contraction of uterine muscles and, therefore, should not be used when pregnancy is suspected, as they can cause serious changes in the baby’s development.
Furthermore, as some teas can have a laxative effect, due to changes in the contraction of smooth muscles, they should also not be used on children or the elderly without medical advice.
Why menstruation can be late
The main cause of late menstruation is pregnancy, but hormonal changes, excessive stress and high consumption of foods with caffeine, such as chocolate, coffee and Coca-Cola can also alter the menstrual cycle. Furthermore, other diseases such as polycystic ovary syndrome can also cause menstruation to be late or early. Learn more about the causes of late menstruation.
In cases where a woman is unsure whether she is pregnant, she should not drink any of these teas.

When to go to the doctor
Delayed menstruation is a relatively common event that happens at least once in almost every woman’s life. Most of the time, this delay is related to small changes in hormonal balance, which end up resolving naturally within a few days.
However, if the delay lasts more than 1 week or if it is accompanied by cramps or very intense abdominal pain, the ideal is to consult a gynecologist to identify the possible cause.
