Today, continuing this very interesting subject, we are going to show you some of the most common and basic mistakes we make when doing nails at home. Some of them, as you will see, were not even considered errors by you until today, they seemed so natural!

A good example of this is the way you file your nails. When we do nails at home, it’s common to use the nail file from one side to the other when adjusting the shape of our nails or reducing their length, right? Well, know that this is completely wrong!

1. Not cleaning materials

1

Even though no one else uses their pliers, spatula, nail clippers and other common materials when doing nails at home, they must be properly cleaned before being stored. If you don’t have a suitable stove, wash everything with soap and water and leave your utensils immersed for a while in chemical substances capable of eliminating bacteria. Tip: acetone is no use!

Store everything after it dries and remember that these utensils, like nail files, cannot be shared with other people.

2. Removing the cuticles too much

2

Having a deep cuticle is one of the biggest sins of those who usually do nails at home. This is because the cuticles function as protection for the nails, preventing infections from contaminating your body. So, if you are going to use pliers, just remove the excess!

The ideal, according to experts, is to use moisturizers and cuticle reducers every day, or as often as possible, which allow the cuticle to be pushed back with a spatula. Only what remains raised after this process can be cut.

3. File your nails in a “back and forth” motion

3

This, most of the time, everyone does wrong when they have the habit of doing nails at home is filing their nails. This is because we tend to make back-and-forth movements, from one side to the other, when reducing and adjusting the size and shape of our nails.

This, however, can cause your nails to peel. The ideal, then, is to always sand in one direction.

4. Apply thick layers of nail polish

Another thing that everyone does wrong when doing nails at home is using thick layers when applying nail polish. In fact, for more beautiful and long-lasting nail coverage, the ideal is to use thinner layers.

Try using a base coat and two thin coats of nail polish the next time you do your nails at home. The result will be much better and it will take less work to clean the excess around the cuticle.
