The social area of a decorated apartment is the main space of a property. After all, it is where residents carry out their activities, rest and receive visitors in a comfortable way.

Therefore, the place must receive special care when it comes to decoration and structure, so that it can meet all the expectations and needs of residents.

With this in mind, architect Isabella Nalon, at the head of the office that bears her name, completely transformed the social area of an apartment that is more than 4 decades old. After the renovation, the spaces became larger, more modern and integrated. Check out!

“With the elimination of walls, we united the kitchen with the social area. With the warmth of wood, the home theater is a reminder for no one to watch a movie alone and the dining room has become the family meeting point.”explains the architect.

Furthermore, she adds that, to promote this ‘turnaround’, she always seeks to understand the use of environments in clients’ daily lives to then understand which solutions will be relevant and assertive. Follow:

Room before and after

In the original project, the living room had a narrow balcony, measuring just 2 m², which was not used much by residents. With the removal of the door that separated the terrace from the social area, the connection between the spaces enhanced the area and opened up space to accommodate guests.

“Even with this opening, we kept the original glass at the bottom. Outside, we invested in a glass enclosure and created this bench with a futon that increased the number of seats”clarifies Isabella.

The wooden floor, which was already quite deteriorated, was replaced by polished porcelain tiles, a practical material that is very easy to maintain. In this way, the new floor was laid in all areas of the social area, a resource that helped with integration.

With the changes implemented in the layout, the living room has become perfect for relaxing. Thus, with a soft and calm color palette, the space features raw linen upholstery mixed with organic design pieces. For example, the coffee table, mixing it with other furniture with straight, minimalist lines.

The natural and elegant design was completed by a large gray rug that adds a pleasant texture to the floor.

Home theater

Even with the proposal to integrate the spaces into the project, it was not possible to eliminate the walls completely. However, to give the feeling of continuity between one room and another, Isabella chose to use custom-made joinery. In addition, there are porticos with a woody finish, improving integration and creating a TV room.

Equipped with audiovisual resources, the space has a super comfortable sofa plus a chaise – an invitation to stretch your feet and feel more comfortable –, as well as a backrest and retractable seat.

In distribution, the TV was installed on the wall that separates the dining room from the social area, without causing visual interference. Well-planned carpentry, which is located around the device, promotes functionality, beauty and organization, as it hides the wires of electronic equipment.

“As we don’t have a panel here, we camouflage the infrastructure in pipes inside the wall. We also work with very light furniture and joinery, following the proposal of the living room”says the professional.

Practical and functional kitchen

The kitchen, which in the original plan was isolated from the social area, also had its walls removed. Thus, resulting in spaciousness, more fluid circulation and increased natural luminosity.

The project includes a stain- and scratch-resistant quartz countertop for quick meals. In nimbus gray color, it fits in like a monochromatic block with the woodwork and, suspended 94 cm from the floor, allows the legs to fit when residents are sitting on the high stools.

Thinking about the work part, the professional included a double stainless steel sink for washing food and dishes, a cooktop, custom-made joinery with a hot tower and drawers for utensils.

“Everything was meticulously well thought out. The refrigerator, washing, cooking and food preparation areas, for example, are very close to make everyday tasks easier”evidence.

Elegant dining room

In the old layout of the apartment, a bedroom and a small kitchen occupied the space that gave rise to a large and bright dining room. However, the dividing wall between the room and the rest of the social area could not be removed.

Therefore, the solution was to increase the opening of the old door to promote the feeling of integration with the living room and the TV room.

When demolishing the masonry to transform the bedroom and pantry into the dining room, a beam was found in the middle of the path. The solution was to take on the difference in the slab, which could not be eliminated, and cover it with a woody MDF that covered the entire area.

“Through this, we gained a very tasty coffee corner, complete with a counter and a wine cellar”highlights Isabella.

Furthermore, to support this corner, she created a sideboard, which, due to its fixation, appears to be floating. The piece of furniture has a 5cm thick countertop and two drawers, both made of woody MDF and 1.80m long.

Aligned with the wooden lining, the professional created an MDF cabinet, in nude gray, with open niches and two doors. According to her, the built-in spots, both in the lower and upper parts, have a more focal opening and are able to enhance the works of art and objects that are on display.

Another super useful piece of furniture in the dining room is the buffet, which goes from one end of the room to the other.

“We created these practical and elegant pieces of furniture precisely to organize all the crockery and other accessories used on special occasions”, explana.

Toilet before and after

Even with the reduced size, the bathroom gained a new look. The architect opted for porcelain tiles for the floor and wallpaper, which enhance the lighting.

With LEDs surrounding the mirror, a wall light and spotlights on the ceiling, the room was undoubtedly overvalued.

On the other hand, the countertop, the star of the room and the apartment decorated before and after, has a carved quartz bowl.
