In our last post about our trip to Chile, we’re going to talk about one of the tours we liked most there! We finished this super trip through Chilean wineries visiting Clos Apalta/Lapostolle, find out what it was like!
If you’re following our summer 2018 Chilean trip, you might also be interested in our tips for Santiago, Algarrobo, Isla Negra and Valle de Casablanca. From there, we headed to the Colchágua Valley, where we stayed at the spectacular Hotel Parronales, from where we explored the wineries of Santa Cruz. The first winery in the region we visited was Viu Manent, then Viña Montes and, finally, Clos Apalta!
Discovering the Clos Apalta winery
Here we see where science merges with the art of making wine the right way. Where everything is thought out in advance, executed with precision and creates a wonderful result. Influenced by its French owners, the beautiful Clos Apalta has a masterful structure embedded in the mountain built exactly for its impressive and super exclusive production.
The winery has horizontal production and produces some of the most famous and award-winning wines in all of Latin America. The entire construction is designed to take advantage of gravity to transport the fermented liquid during production. Everything there has a tone of exclusivity and to say that our visit was spectacular is not an exaggeration. The winery’s architecture is a separate chapter and the space has an impressive staircase and, in the center, a Foucault pendulum. Everything in very good taste!
The tour explains the method of cultivation, which is completely organic, and the method of production, which is extremely manual. To give you an idea, the grapes are removed from the bunches one by one, so as not to have even part of the stem going to fermentation. It is a very complete and didactic visit. Furthermore, the staff is very attentive.
The tour lasts approximately one hour and costs 14 thousand pesos per person (it is important to make a reservation). The price of the tour includes a tasting of three wines, two from the Cuvee Alexandre line and one from the iconic Clos Apalta, one of the best wines in the world (and after the tour you will understand why). It’s really worth the trip!

After that, we went for a harmonized lunch at Lapostolle Residence. The place has a breathtaking view and great service too. For each dish (starter, cover charge, main course and dessert) they bring a matching wine and the whole experience becomes even richer! The food and wines were simply perfect! But prepare your wallet, this experience costs between 40 thousand and 60 thousand Chilean pesos per person.

The winery also has its own hotel, the Clos Apalta Residence, which is beautiful (and very expensive). But dreaming doesn’t cost anything and you can drool over the Booking photos at the link above. As in a high-end hotel, the service is highly praised and so is the accommodation, with luxurious bathrooms and huge, beautifully decorated rooms. The outdoor pool is a separate chapter!
At the end of your visit to Clos Apalta, you can also visit the viewpoint on the winery’s terrace, a place with incredible views. The winery store has Clos Apalta and Lapostolle wines (the most traditional line) with great prices and service. Very worth the visit!
