I found an American recipe for “Starbucks hot chocolate” and decided to try it. I thought it was too bitter for the sugary Brazilian taste. So I mixed it with another recipe I had and made this delicious chocolate to enjoy the end of winter, which, by the way, is already late (I hate the cold!).
This recipe starts with a Syrup de chocolate (chocolate syrup) which to make just heat:
2 tablespoons of chocolate powder
4 tablespoons of sugar (if you think you need more, add it at the end)
1/4 cup of water
Let it boil. It will bubble and rise a lot, when it starts to drop, turn off the heat. Add a cup of whole milk and 2 tablespoons of cream. When serving, add whipped cream and decorate with sprinkled cinnamon.
This chocolate isn’t really thick because I hate starch in chocolate. But if you want, you can add a dessert spoon of starch dissolved in the milk. Or you can double the recipe and let it reduce at the end, which also thickens (in this case, without the starch).
