What is the Best Place to Stay in Mendoza, Argentina?

There are basically four main regions to stay in Mendoza: the city center and the Maipú, Lujan de Cuyo and Valle de Uco wine regions.

  • Mendoza Center – the most practical and economical option, it is far from being the most charming and interesting.
  • Maipu – is about 12 km from the city and has several wineries that can be visited on a car or bicycle tour
  • Lujan de Cuyo – located about 16 km from the center, it contains most of Mendoza’s wineries.
  • Uco Valley – is about 1 hour from the city. To visit the wineries in this region, it is recommended to book a tour with transport.

Winery accommodations give you an authentic local experience. However, when making your decision, you need to take into account the fact that public transport in the city is quite poor, especially in the surrounding area, where the wineries are.

This way, you will be dependent on remis (taxis that charge a fixed price for the ride) or tours from local travel agencies. The good news is that you can find tours for just over R$100, like this one.

Therefore, if you choose to stay in the wineries of Mendoza, the best thing is to rent a car, as the offer of remis and agencies in the center is much greater than in these more distant regions.

If you still don’t want to drive (since wine and driving don’t mix), you can also ask for help at the reception of your accommodation to arrange taxis and possible tours.
