I was recently staying at Empire Hotel, excellent option on the Upper West Side, in New York and I loved the experience. In a historic building from 1908, the hotel boutique It was renovated in 2008, after a US$5 million renovation.
There are 426 rooms on 11 floors, with the terrace – rooftopas the Americans say – it’s super trendy, with a DJ, drinks and assorted snacks, with the advantage of staying open until two in the morning.
The rooms are comfortable, complete with a desk and equipped with a plasma TV, coffee maker, good beauty products in the bathroom, safe and a generous mini bar.
The decoration of the rooms was inspired by the Central Park, which is right next door. This explains the armchair with animal prints, a tribute to the park’s zoo, in addition to the colors present in nature, starting with the earth-colored building itself.
As it is an old building and has a vibe Interestingly, the hotel constantly serves as a location for films and series, such as Gossip Girl e Sex in the City.
The sign of the Empire Hotel can be seen from afar. I had the chance to go up to the penthouse and see him up close.
In front of the hotel is the Lincoln Centerone of the most important cultural centers in NY, stage for plays, musicals, ballets and operas. For those who don’t know, it’s a beautiful place, with beautiful gardens and a friendly restaurant.
On the first floor of the hotel is the Clow Chowder House restaurant, directly from New England, which offers a varied menu including seafood, salads, soups, as well as serving breakfast. For those who want a simpler coffee, just go to Starbucks, which is on the ground floor, as well as the traditional PJ Clarkes, one of the best burger restaurants in the city. And the good thing is that it stays open until late, if you get hungry after the theater or show. And it also has an incredible variety of beers, as well as other dishes on the menu, apart from sandwiches.
Other good restaurant options are right in front of the hotel, such as the friendly The Smith and Bar Boulud, by renowned chef Daniel Boulud.
In terms of haute cuisine, the location is also perfect, as it is walking distance some of the best restaurants in New York, such as Jean Georges and Per Se, both with Michelin stars.
And since it’s impossible to go to New York and not shop, it’s worth remembering that the Empire it is surrounded by good stores. Highlights include the mega discount brand store, Century 21, a giant Apple and a Best Buy – an electronics paradise – very close by. The friendly Time Warner mall is also not far away. And to top it off, it’s also close to the 72nd Street subway station, which takes you to any corner of the city.
The great advantage of staying at Upper West Side is that you can feel the atmosphere of a New York neighborhood that is not so surrounded by tourists and even dream, who knows, that for a few days you are a resident of one of the most important metropolises in the world.
O Empire Hotel, an excellent option on the Upper West Side, in New York, is part of the World Hotels association.
