To capital two USA It is a city that has subway lines in almost every corner, even so, when deciding where to stay in Washington D.C., I thought it would be better to choose the city center to be able to do most of the sightseeing on foot.
Where to stay in Washington
After a lot of searching, I found some good hotels in the region I wanted and with similar prices: around 100 dollars the room rate. I ended up choosing Washington Plaza Hotel (10 Thomas Circle Northwest)which is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from White House.
Location
One of the main advantages of this hotel is that it is located very close to a metro station, McPherson Sq Stationwhich is on the same line (in blue) as National Airport, which is where I got off. So, I got off the plane and about half an hour later I was at the hotel.
From the subway station to the hotel it is around 4 blocks, and just over five minutes. On the first day, I walked to the White House and didn’t use the subway again. I did everything walking. Only on the second day, when I went to the Pentagonthat I had to use public transport again.
If you’re too lazy to walk to the White House, take a taxi. The ride won’t cost much more than 5 dollars. At night, I went to eat at PJ Clarkes, which is relatively close to the White House, and the taxi cost exactly 5 dollars at 10pm on a Saturday.
It’s worth remembering that there is a CVS near the hotel, meaning it’s very easy to buy things for breakfast and also water to leave in the room.
Service
I confess that I was surprised by the hotel. The service was great. Everyone was very friendly, they loved Brazil and praised my English when I apologized and said I was in the country to improve it. Additionally, they offered a map and helped me find my way around.
The fourth
Since I was alone, they ended up putting me in an even better room than the one I had booked. I paid 99 dollars the daily rate without breakfast and I stayed in a room with a very large and comfortable double bed, two bathrooms, two TVs, a living room with a sofa and a beautiful view of the city from the window.
Worth it?
I thought the hotel was great and had an excellent location. If I return to Washington, I will stay there again.
