The hotel is very complete! In the lobby we can see its grandeur and refinement, with a very beautiful reception with a large tapestry panel standing out and the S. Jorge bar on the side. Furthermore, at the time of check in, guests are promptly attended to and receive full explanations about the services offered and the facilities available. Cordiality and kindness are certainly the first words that come to mind with this receptivity. An elegant and modern hotel that manages to be perfectly integrated into the landscape, tradition and history of Lisboa.

The rooms
My room had a bed king size, minibar and Nespresso machine with complimentary sachets. The highlight is the large smoked mirror in front of the bed, and behind it is the TV screen. A different and discreet way to insert the television set into the bedroom decor. A large window overlooks the city directly, and in the background you can see the sea. In the super spacious bathroom, two sinks, bathtub, amenities, bathrobes and slippers, for the guest’s total comfort.

The Spa

The gastronomy
The breakfast room at the Girassol restaurant is also large. Very plentiful, with several stations full of bread options, cold cuts, cheeses, cereals and yogurts, jams, honey, fruits, hot dishes stations, waffles, juices and coffee. Certainly difficult to even know where to start!
D.Fernando restaurant at the hotel well located in Lisbon
And we also had the chance to have dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, D. Fernando. Impeccable from start to finish. We had personalized service from sommelier Artur Caldas, who presented us with the menu and wine list, and also prepared personally, in front of us, one of the chosen dishes. We were offered a cover charge which, of course, was accompanied by traditional Portuguese olive oil, and an amusebouche of pea soup with mint.
The dishes
The wine was perfectly suggested by the sommelier, a slightly smooth white from Vale das Areias. For the main course, naturally, a good cod couldn’t be missing. We ordered the oven-baked cod fillet with Braga-style roast potatoes, it was divine. Additionally, I chose a shrimp risotto flambéed with cognac. That was the one that the friendly Artur flambéed right there in the hall in a separate show. The flavor was up to the exquisite preparation!
Cream Pastries
We learned that the High Grand has been considered for some years as one of the best places in Lisboa to eat custard tart. It is only in third place behind the famous and sought after pastéis de Belém, in the neighborhood of Belém, where the return to Altis maintains another hotel, among others spread throughout the city. So, as expected, it is logical that some pastries were part of our dessert. As well as a chocolate mousse to top it off.
On the menu, there are several other seafood, meat and poultry dishes, but fish is certainly the big choice. D. Fernando also has a very charming balcony with a privileged view of São Jorge Castle. Illuminated at night, it is another point in the hotel’s favor.
Finally, there is no shortage of reasons why the High Grand be chosen for a stay in the Portuguese capital, and there will certainly be no shortage of reasons for guests to want to stay longer at the hotel and in the city. After all, being welcomed as if we were at home, just in Portugal!
